Turrets not affected by chaff?

Just a quick thing, I thought chaff affected turrets?
I just just came up against someone and chaff had no effect at all yet the wiki says It affects turrets

The wiki is unofficial external and inaccurate.

However I use chaff against turrets, it makes me feel better.

They aren't, IMHO they should be. Gimballed weapons track the target and are confused by chaff, so why shouldn't turrets also be affected?

Turrets are pretty weak as they are... if they were affected by chaff, they would be completely and utterly useless and big ships would be basically defenseless.

It was a nice fight, btw, lonewarrior, had a lot of fun :)

They probably changed it after launch to make the turrets at least somewhat useful as others have pointed out and never bothered to update the manual.

May be a bug and simply no one has reported it and so people now have convinced themselves it is actually normal. Seen one classic example of this where people thought stations with the same name occurring 4 or 5 times was normal, Until it was reported last week and FD said they were fixing it.

In-game description of chaff's keybinding talks about both gimballed and turrets.
Wouldn't make much sense otherwise.

I did some rudimentary tests on this once with another player.

It seemed that chaff did effect turrets, but instead of the huge difference it makes to gimballed, it only makes their aim swing around an extra couple of degrees.

So within 1km it made very little difference but out at 2-3km range that couple of degrees made a fair difference.

Might have to test this this properly with a number of repeated tests to confirm or deny.
