Newcomer / Intro Tweaking my Jumpdrive

Hello,
can someone tell me if there's a way to get more out of my jumpdrive?
My ride is the stock Sidewinder with a Jump Range of 6.96 LY. Is there a device which can improve my Jumpdrive performance
or I'd better be looking for a new ship?
Any help is appreciated.

You can buy an upgraded Frame Shift Drive module. Look for the Outfitter at a high-tech station.

Or lower the mass of your ship as is. Less mass = further jump range.

yup for instance...take your guns/whatever off to lose "weight" and you will be able to go further...but no guns is risky.
or earn some money local and upgrade your ship before you venture out.

Sorry how do you lower ship mass? Remove guns ok, but how must I sell them at an outpost? or is there a way to just drop them off

You have to sell them at an output that has the outfitting option.

Upgrade your FSD (is pricey), or sell guns and shield generator. But that is a noble path. Or is it lunacy? I did that loadout when trading and did not have that many issues.

Its worth checking all the possible upgrades that you can do as many upgrades will reduce your weight. At the bottom right of the upgrade screen there is a panel which shows how your ship mass, jump range and power usage are affected. If you have not earned enough for making the changes you need then check the bulletin board for jobs you can do as they often pay very well for little work. I have enev had some in system jobs pay over 4K credits.

Most D grade modules offer reduced weight and increased performance over the standard grade E stuff. My combat capable sidewinder gets just over 20LY jumps, every ship system module is grade D bar the frameshift drive which is an A grade.
