Two Elite CMDRs should not behave like that: they bring shame on the Pilots Federation.

Ooh, you mean like real, meaningful consequences? It was promised but so far all that's been delivered is pandering and weak responses. I'm hopeful 1.3 will improve this... not VERY hopeful mind you, just a little.

The problem is that if you implement serious consequences for crime in the game right now, you kill piracy. Completely. Even the guys who do it right, the ones who demand cargo and let you go if you hand it over.

Why?

Because the profit in piracy is crap. So if there's high risk and crap reward, nobody will do it. Then the game loses something.

Piracy ought to be high-risk high-reward. Right now it's low-risk low-reward. So if they're going to increase the penalties for crime to deter the griefer-types, they need to do something to improve the lot of those who are trying to actually play a pirate rather than a psycho murderer.

NOTE: I am not a pirate. I rather enjoy killing pirates, though, so it would be depressing if they were all gone!

Every one who weak in something must stay out of open play and enjoy the game they like. Devs did a lot for every kind of ppl, so do not ask them to produce just another shield for another fool.
I was attaked a lot by such pilots, I understand the frustration when u got killed alone vs 2, but no one forsed me other than my self to go open play and be with good ppl as well as with idiots in same instance.
There is a big galaxy, do not stay on some ones way in not right moment or kill everyone who is on your way every moment you like, if you can do you will do just because you can.
For some one it is sad and frustration some one call it fun every one have a choice.

If they're that bored they should clear their save. Killing newer players for sport in a rare item system is hardly an elite thing to do..

If you ONLY introduce stiff penalties I agree, it would kill piracy. Right now we have fines and bounties, to make consequences work while maintaining and encouraging piracy AND bounty hunting AND smuggling there needs to be a third level of penalty for murder,AND increased tools for non-fatal piracy. Have a look at my various (very long, detailed) proposals for this in the sticky crime discussion thread, to avoid derailing this one.

What you are describing is really despicable bevaviour, that is stimulated by the lack of noteworthy ingame punishment/consequences.

No wonder so many people prefer sticking to solo or private groups.

Rep to you for trying to set things right blasting the basement dwellers.

This. Not only will the action itself help drive those newbies away, but others reading this thread and others like it will likely decide that open is not for them and off they go to solo or group. Eventually, it will be state normal for new players to start in solo/group AND STAY THERE. And who will be the first to complain that open is sparsely populated? I wonder.

Should we all stay home, work off the internet for our incomes, get everything delivered, have our kids tutored in their bedrooms. Keep the car in the garage?

I really wonder what lives people live at times! It's an ugly world. Oh you have an option for solo and private groups... didn't know! enjoy your cage, while I chase the bullies. OP well done for fighting back.

Funnily enough, some people actually do do that: office workers having to work at home because they share a desk, who perhaps can't leave the house and have to do everything online. Those families who choose to teach their children at home more than likely supervise them in their own rooms, etc. Ergo, the car stays in the garage. ;) :)

Anyhoo, OT. In the original Elite, if you so much as touched a clean ship or authority vessel outside a station, the local police force came down on you like a tonne of bricks. By now, you'd expect ED to do the same ore more, but until this happens in ED, best play solo or group. If FD continue to ignore these issues, then it will always be the innocent, honest players who will be continually punished by an already unforgiving game.

It's nice that you want to "chase the bullies", if that's your game and you have the skills that's fine but you've got no right to insult others if they don't enjoy the same game as you, any more than those who "cry havok" have to insult people for wanting to avoid them. Some people play to cause havok and dismay to others, some want to be "white knights", others just want to quietly explore or mine or trade in space. We all paid to play this game, and there's no rule that says that any of us must sacrifice our own enjoyment for the enjoyment of others. We are all here for our own fun in our own way, not yours... none of us are REQUIRED to be victims or hero worshippers or combatants if we don't want.

Don't we have a system-wide general communication channel now? Just hail all commanders in the system to bear down on your location and start chasing some griefers.

Funnily enough I got into trouble in the forum for mocking this stance and was told I was putting words into peoples mouths. But here it is. Again. Calling people fools for not taking advantage of exploits.

It's not an ugly world where I live. I don't have to do any of those things. Maybe you should perhaps think of possibly moving?

+1

So true, I believe.

well... if with those ships they didn't managed to blow your clipper to smithereens... that tells you the "Elite" sticker they had must be fake
You can get to Elite by killing lots and lots of non-Elite NPC's. The ranks don't mean you're good because even a Harmless player could take you out. It doesn't matter how good the AI is, NPC's will be predictable in any given condition, players are not.

I tried: Only traders around, my friends all offline, some other CMDRs in Bhrtizameno were afraid to join and raid on them... and there was not such time to write to all other CMDRs in the station area, because the two CMDRs attacked me instantly, every time I approached the station. So I had to fight immediately. But I must admit it was lot of fun even alone, except the Combat Logging part. That's the only part I'm really blaming.

What would really help would be a clear way of determining the perpetrator in the event of a collision, but I can imagine this might be very hard to determine in code.
Maybe expanding the loitering zone to include a larger area around the mail slot would be a more simple way of doing things, and in the event of a collision within this zone, all parties involved would be targeted by station defenses?
Sure, the victim still dies, but so do the scumbags perpetrating the offense in the first place.

Wish people would stop saying 'another reason to go in solo' - these are 2 different games.

Be happy in solo
Toughen up in open

You get used to one just like you get used to using one system as your 'home' system although you know full well there are better ones out there you like your safety blanket.
