For all we know they're already out there, but the nav beacons have been disabled for all non-authorized personnel. It'd be sensible, to avoid looters and other kind of troublemakers.

I'd like to see important space stations under siege due to conflict. That would really make things interesting. Also would like to see changes of authority. Basically let's say the empire captures I Bootis from the Federation then any enemy PC that enters the sector would be given a warning and if they didn't comply would be fired upon.

Space station build expansion

It would make a great expansion pack. Space station build.

Cmdrs would have to defend a space station being built in the outer regions.
No trading till its completed so players would have to have enough cash to rearm/repair till the station is complete.
The initial station facilities only allowing rearming & repair.
Defend against Thargoids, pirates, factions whoever.
There would be time limits and attacks come in waves
Station damage slows the build & its destruction means fail
If the station completes you gain a fat bonus.

I'd like to see Cmdrs being able to 'invest' in space stations for a share of the takings

A skinny bloke in a badly fitting bomber jacket turns up on your construction platform. He has a couple of shaved ape types at either shoulder.

"Hold on, hold on. You go a permit for that? You can't just chuck up a station wherever you like. Got to go through proper channels you have. Got to engage the union labour you have. Can't just start building can you?"

Looks over shoulder to the heavies behind him.

"Take it down lads."
