Two weeks since restarting and.....

Arissa Lavigny-Duval is the Emperor, not Empress. Nail. Head..

And it is this way because that's what the lore says and the Empire is modeled on a 5000 year old Italian patriarchy, but it's 3303, and there is no-one better placed to reform the system now. What a shame she isn't able.

I have made King rank in the Empire. Should be queen in my case. FDEV kindly take note of maybe one day giving us the options between male and female versions. (Hint Hint) And Today I hit Admiral Rank with the Federation plus managed finally to repurchase my cutter and also have a fleet already of over 21 ships......i know.....i must be crazy lol

Wonder how many other completionists do we have here that have to reach the absolute top rank tier of both powers just because..

o7 My fellow Commanders, now I am off to grind so I can get a Corvette :D

Well done.

I spent a few hours ranking up this weekend and finally made Lieutenant and have 160mill in the bank (and 20+ ships fully outfitted)

Made the mistake of leaving Ceos to try out LHS 142, and honestly while LHS 142 may be good for newer players, Ceos is far better for those with large passenger ships imho.

One would hope that by the time 3303 comes around, humans have set their ideaologies regarding sexism behind them and simply accept a term for what it's worth, just a term and nothing more.

I mean, though I was born a natual male, and have lived my life as one. In the presnt day if my agenda depicts that being a female is conducive to forwarding my agenda. Then everyone is mandated to referring to me as a female, and I thus become entitled to any and all perks that females are entitled and have learn to expect from the rest of society. And should I change my agenda tomorrow, I can also change my gender to match. Ah, life is grand when one utilizes any and all explots available.

Hence at 68, if I've deceided that I am a lesbian. After all, if one consider's what a lesbian is, with the exception of having a peanus (real spelling is not allowed), I am a lesbian. Based entirely on my FEELINGS I am the same. And my FEELINGS are more important to the goings on in the world than anyone and everyone else's. Thus anyone and everyone is mandated to go along and abide to my FEELINGS; The fact that anyone and everyone else is entitled to their FEELINGS that may be contrary to my are of no consequence and if so, they should be punished.

In truth, call me what ever the hell you want, it's only a only a word in the dictionary, in which different meanings are added to every generation, never eliminating the previous meanings in the process.

Well it is and it isn't. On the one hand this is just a game and the Empire and its history are a complete fiction, but one of the purposes of fiction - good fiction, at any rate - is to get us to look at things in a way we might not in every day life. A debate about gender politics within the Empire is every bit as valid (or invalid) as the one about slavery, and we know that DB is on record about that.

"It's just a word" is something you say from a position of privilege.

Wow. I almost didn't dignify this and I might regret it but what on earth are you talking about?

I did NOT start this thread for a gender war to take place but since a discussion has started here I might have just a wee say in it.

Nemo was born a male. So? He is happy with the way things are. I was born a female and still am one and am I happy with the male ranks on the Empire, no I am not. Why? Let me tell you why. In a world that is supposed to be becoming more gender equal how the hell by 3303 have we gone back to draconian times where only the Males are catered for?? I live with the male ranks sure but do I like or agree with them? Not a chance in a Klingons backside do I. Do I believe the lore should be amended to allow someone to be called queen or whatever instead of king. Absolutely I do.

This might not be game breaking but it is something which us Female players would deeply appreciate.

Oh and Nemo, glad you decided to be a lesbian after all one of the joys of being human is being abale to choose. i have been all my life and married the last 16 years to the same wonderful woman. You really should try it, you might just like it!

And this is why the Blue Pixie Princess is the best imperial ever.

not this whole gender war thing again, you can't call it a war if one side wins before it starts. i was born a man, but i have lived as a woman for 10 years. i have been a fan of elite since the original 84' release, and when i started on the forums there was no gender war we all got along.

but now because i and a few others have asked for female imperial military ranks everyone screams no because the lore says so, if the lore says that salomes title before her exile was princess and she was called lady by lower ranks, then why can't female pilots have the same respect given to them.

now who wants some humble pie, i have enough to go round. and nemo (aka billl) don't say anymore, or i will get really angry i ain't had chocolate in 4 weeks

I'm with you! And Jenny is with you, too. And as for Lore, did you know that when ED was first released, there was no FTL communications? The "lore" was that only ships with FDL drives can go faster-than-light, not radio waves. That's why we have data delivery missions, and why you can't access up-to-date market data from anywhere in the galaxy! It was much more like the 1800s, where message was delivered by horseback and sailing ships. Then Frontier threw all that out the window when they invented telepresence (which doesn't just apply to multicrew, but the faction leaders who exist in every station that faction is present in). Long story short, screw lore - FDev has done it before. Screw telepresence, too, because I kinda like the old "no FTL comms" model [yesnod]

I could hug you for that comment OD. Oh what the hell.....*Hugs*! [big grin]

I feel so honored to have you here, Sir Ducks!!

According to my dictionary; Emperor is a term used by the British to differenciate between genetical males and females, with the term Emperess being applied to the genetical female. Neither are terms used in American English to a person of such statur. Thus a request to change the term to something other because some American's don't like it. Would basically be the same argument. In so much as the "David" is British it's his decision and thus used his understanding of terminolgy according to his dictionary when designing the game. We, both American and British, Male and Female are simply pawns playing his game, and like it or not, for better or worse, must learn to get past it. Or start a company, hire programmer's and design a game their way, which I guarntee, will not be 100% accepted by 100% of anyone and everyone playing it. And be requested to change things to their line of thinking.

Privilege has nothing to do with it. Men have certain privilegs when looked at by a person or person(s) whom are not men. Women have certain privilegs when looked at by a person or person(s) whom are not women. Thus simular to a pot calling a kettle black, a male stating a female is privileged or visa versa, is a moot point inso much as both are seen as privileged from outside there particular group(s).

Nemo dear before I send you to go find Dory, it wouldn't be that much of a big deal to have the female equivalents of the male Empire ranks available as an option. Certainly would not affect the game for you or anyone else but would certainly make a lot of difference to myself and other Female ED players. Now begone!

Plenty of women on this game and as far as I know the female player base on all platforms is massive. Anyone to argue about this rank request is ignorant.

Nemo as a man I've never been chastised in a street or afraid of leaving the bar at 22:00 or having to cross the street to the opposite sidewalk because of… men. It's true what you say about different genders being different and having different privileges. Still we do live in a patriarchal society since almost forever, to a point that, Cleopatras, Dilmas, Mata Haris, Evas, Hillaries, are always few and far between. Yes, as we've talked each other in a previous thread, it's arguable that women rule from the shadows and the bedrooms whilst men sometimes aren't the de facto rulers, but we can't deny our world offers more opportunities to males. More security, more respect, more freedom. Almost nobody badmouths a guy for having multiple relationships at the same time, the same can hardly be said about a woman.

Anyway. I'm pretty sure that you, in your marked life experience and wisdom, many times proved over and over in these same forums, are pretty aware of everything I've just said, and much much more. Hence why I believe you don't actually mean what you say as of here, rather you're teasing us at MSR and our glorious female crew.

Thanks for always minding us but please, back our tiny idea, it does no harm to the community, and will much please lots of women players.

Cheers, buddy.
