Tycoon to Elite

So I just noticed I'm 5% Tycoon in trading. Now, all I can think about is getting to Elite, and moving to Jameson memorial.

Any objections?

Well, what's the best way to increase Trade rank, and how long will it take me to get there? I can't wait....

As of tomorrow trade will get a temporary week-long boost. If you want to stay in-game: just truck basic medicine to a outbreak system, use the map filters. Its about 4k-5k per ton, without bonus. In a day or so you'll be elite.

Decide on a big ship you wanna buy, find a good passenger mission run, get a Beluga if you can. By the time you have enough for the new ship & equip, you should have had a decent boost.

Run whatever missions give increases to trade rank, stacking the highest value ones you can find. Long range trade missions and whatever passenger missions pay the highest and are stackable at the moment, probably first class/VIP transport missions?

You could literally have done it in a day back when they had the 50m long distance bulk passenger missions. Would have been a boring day though :D

Whatever you do, don't try to get trade rank by doing something stupid like actually trading because you'll be at it until the heat death of the universe unless you just love going A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B > A > B.

Clarification: transport rich meatsack from A to B = points towards trade rank. Take bored meatsack on a trip to see shiny bits = exploration rank.

To go from Tycoon to Elite, you have to make nearly as much profit as you already have made...basically,

Increasing Trade RANK is simply about Trade profits earned. On the Wiki there is a handy table that shows you how much Trade profit you need to earn in order to progress upwards through the Trading RANKs:

So I need to make around 1 billion credits? Ouch.

Or does each ranks progress stay for the next one. Like I made the 400 mil for Tycoon, so that's taken away from Elite, meaning I 'only' have to make 600/700 mil in credits?

Yes, you need to get from where you are, around 400 million(?) to just over a billion.

As Roybe says, you are about halfway from penniless to Elite. And that's the same with exploration and combat, the last rank is equivalent (if not a little more) than what you have done up until then.

I guess I can't blame Fdev for that. Gotta be a challenge, or else everyone would be elite.

It's just mathematics on their part, and persistence on yours.

Just make sure you have fun doing it! :)

My highest rank is in Trading, whether it be passengers or goods, it's what I do.

Is a shame long range hauling (100's lys) disappeared though, that was favourite thing to do....

Elite Trader here, find a good loop route (A to B to A) close to your system here: https://eddb.io/trade/loops. Type your system there and choose the one you see fit. One jump range and the most profit per trip is what you are looking for. (obviously)

I started Trading with an Adder, then went back a bit with an Asp Explorer, then went for an Imperial Clipper, then a Python (most of the trading was made with this one) and finally an Imperial Cutter which helped a lot to get Elite at the end. I did a lot of Gold runs back in the day and made more or less 2.000.000 credits per loop. (imagine around 5 to 10 minutes per loop if you find a good one jump range route with stations close to the main star)

It wasn't that fun but it paid out (pun intended).

I'm exploring at the moment (well actually I'm coming back to the bubble) and listening to some music is helping a lot with the constant jumping from system to system non stop, it might help you as well.

To get to Tycoon I did the highest paid trade loops I could find in my T9. The trade loop always involved imperial slaves one way and some other commodity going back.
https://eddb.io/trade/loops

To get from Tycoon to Elite I sold my T9, bought a Cutter and outfitted it with 720 tons of cargo space and kept doing trade loops.

What ever ship you use Engineer it for max shields with shield boosters and the highest jump range you can get our of your FSD.

With the T9 I would still get interdicted and loose my shields once in a while. With my Engineered Cutter my shields never went down more than one ring before I could jump away and go on with my business.

Each progressive step in the process of becoming any ELITE involves considerably more than the previous step. Though there are actual figues some where, it's basically each step is twice as much as the previous. Though not 100 percent accurate, an example would be; First level 100, Second 200, Third 400, Fourth 800, etc. etc. etc. The same goes for Naval ranking, each step in the process requires more than the previous. Though one can't loose any progess they've attained toward one or more of the ELITE badges. One must ascertain a minimum of 75 percent when working on Naval ranking. Naval ranking can go down, if and when you do misions for the "OTHER" Navy or Alliance. However, it won't drop below 75 percent once one has passed it.
