Type 10 AFK build in Odyssey and what I've noticed

I won't speak of the actual build, this is not the point (and I don't want to start a controversy about AFK bounty hunting). Suffice to say that I've made myself out of boredom and after watching some Youtube videos a Type 10 capable of resisting in RES without any piloting of my part. Laser turrets only and a fighter, everything works as intended (with a small caveat - I didn't manage to get an antidote for hatch breaker limpets, though I do have 8 point defenses, so I take 128t of cargo that are fine for a while).

I tested both in Odyssey and Horizons and I noticed the following annoying differences:
  • in Odyssey after a while, my frame rate is dropping from 100-120 to 16-17; I even left overnight and in the morning I had 2 fps!!! If I normally play the game this never happened, even after 3-4h.
  • in Odyssey the payout is way better!!! Like 3x to 5x. This is definitely beyond any randomness.

So, memory leak in Odyssey or other bad programming? And, even worse, unequal payment - this is bad, because it creates an unfair advantage for players in Odyssey, while doing the exact same activity.

Did anybody notice the same issues?

First your idea is wrong here, the game is to enjoy not creating a minecraft gold farm in which you leave the game on and that's it.
The current rewards are the ones he always had to have, I have killed elite cobras that last 3 minutes and they have paid me 200,000, in the horizon it would be 30,000, is that fair? A cobra that resists an elite level corvette that pays you 30,000 ?.
Many people have complained about this a long time ago, now that they finally put it in line with what you are facing there is always someone who complains, on top of that you do it with a TYPE-10 mounted so that it kills alone? you have no voice or vote just for that

I don't think you understand what his point is.

Put aside the lameness of a pilotless way of Res farming, the point is that there shouldn't be a financial disparity between the two game builds, for doing the same activity.......And that there appears to be a memory leak (I think we kind of knew) on the ED:O build.

His real crime is the Type 10 🤢🤢🤢

Well, I enjoyed designing and fully modifying that Type 10... :) I've never owned one until a couple of days ago - terrible agility.

So I'm not doing it for money (I have over 8b assets and over 3b cash - playing since 2015), I'm doing it for fun. Also I've mentioned that I don't want to start a controversy.

And yes, the 2 things I've noticed bothers me: especially the disparity between Horizons and Odyssey.

I would quite like that type 10 build actually
Coriolis

Some experimental effects still to be applied, but all in all it does what it needs to do. Also 2 fighters (Taipan plasma and Condor for backup). If anything, it's a good trainer for the npc pilot... :)

Still, I'm not sure what to do with the cargo - 128t seems low, when you lose about 5t per attack. And when you don't have any cargo left, nobody attacks you.

Tbf I made an AFK T10 build just to see if I could make one. It worked, but it's extremely boring to actually do.

For the record, your antidote for hatch breakers is to turn FA off and give yourself a slight spin. Covers the blind spots of the point defence.

Edit: Just read your last comment. Something's up if you're losing 5T per attack, mine only has 8T total :p

point defense are confirmed not damaging or destroying HB limpits right now.

People are mad because it works.

Did they revert the changes to bounty hunting in Horizons? I remember everything was paying out 5x or more before Odyssey came 'round.
I'm not sure, I don't do BH for a living, but I've tested both in EDH and in EDO and the difference in EDO's favor was at least 3x. Also individual bounties seemed in EDH like the old days (never got a 1 mil. bounty in EDH, but I got that a lot in EDO). It's anecdotical for now, just my sample of 1, but wasn't EDH buffed some time ago, before EDO?

The frame rate dropping thing is a bug and has been around for ages - it's not related to Odyssey specifically. I found it out several months ago when I made my type 10 and suffered performance issues:

From what I have been told, it is something to do with having the SLF deployed with the AI pilot for extended periods but yes, it does smack of a memory leak somewhere. The 'fix' or workaround at least is to periodically log out to main menu and back in again and voila, all your FPS are back.

The Type 10 'AFK' build (I don't like that term as I am never AFK with mine) is broken at the moment anyway due to another bug introduced with Odyssey whereby hatch breaker limpets are invincible and can't be destroyed by point defense.

I've never tried turreted weapons, so forgive me for asking a few dumb questions:

Could this be done without a SLF?

How do you get the ship to scan and open fire? I guess you could carry a ton of gold as bait, but doing so even behind the wheel will cause mayhem in say a CNB?

Thanks in advance :alien:

I wouldn't consider doing this as anything else but to learn more about the game mechanics, but I do like the challenge and the creativity. On the other hand I wouldn't consider it cheating if anyone did, as long as it doesn't involve extra "software" to work.

The theory is you go to a low rez site with something fairly valuable in your hold. You don't need vast tons of stuff - I only carry 24 tons in my Type 10. The pirates then scan you and demand cargo. When they don't get it, they open fire and with turrets set to auto fire, you fire back. Yes, it can be done without an SLF - with a relatively modestly engineered ship, there is little in a low res that will kill you but without an SLF, you may suffer if you are unlucky enough to get several wings of 3 pirates scanning and demanding at the same time. The SLF just adds a little more DPS to the build.

Don't know what a CNB is I'm afraid, not familiar with the acronym.

Thanks!

CNB: Compromised Navigation Beacon, one of my favorite hunting grounds. Plenty of light close to the star, a lot of wanted ships and no rocks, not that I mind the rocks though.

Oh yes I see. It may work there but there are probably too many friendly forces around - the turrets don't take into account intervening targets so you may end up shooting a space policeman and it all turning into a mess.

The Type 10 AFK build was really only designed for low res since you can sit there and get a constant flow of enemies and a predictable level of enemy as well. Stacking the massacre missions along with the bounty you get makes for an easy pay day. Note you don't actually fly into the asteroid ring - you sit above it slightly - what you are looking for are clean and clear fields of fire. Also, you turn off 'report crimes against me' so the police don't show up and get in the way.

I'm beginning to think this idea worth a try, just to see if I can make it work. I'm one of those "nerds" that have used half my time in Elite engineering ships. I guess it's my Sudoku.
