Type-6 loadout

I've been running a Cobra, switching between trade runs and combat as and when the mood takes me.
I've got the ship upgraded pretty well and have begun thinking about my next ship.
I am thinking of picking up a Type-6 and outfitting it as a pure trader (I'll be keeping the Cobra as a combat ship)

My initial thoughts are going towards stripping out the guns and shields and maximising cargo space and jump distance.
Does anyone have any recommendations and any idea on how much it would cost to purchase and outfit the Type-6?

Keep the shield. Its simply too dumb to fly without.

The Type 6 is very cheap to outfir for the 104 cargo version. But to run some good trade runs you want to have 1.7-2.0m. Plus the rebuy.

Your budget should be ~3.5m for a well specified trading Type 6. Mostly D rated items with A FSD, keep the shields but drop the disco scanner for more cargo. The shields compartment is already optimised for trading, feel free to upgrade but don't be surprised when you can't replace if you sell them (hull too heavy).

I have never bothered with shields, 112 cargo space, outfitting with level A stuff about 2mill, you can easily outrun in interdiction by a npc, just cut engines, drop out of frame shift turn and burn the level A engines and power plant come in handy as you can pritty much boot out of the way non stop till you can jump, I never had more than 5% damage to hull, as to player assaults, I have never been intercepted in a T-6 so cant comment on what to do, I just stay around the "safe" area trading routes. I did get jumped once but was in an asp trading, he tried take my cargo but I just ripped him with 6 MC`s lol

I did the same. Just fill it up with cargo slots. You can get it up to about 104t if you keep the shields. I kept the lasers too, not that I really needed either, only got interdicted twice in about 2 days of play (yawn). I did get a kill in it though. I upgraded the fsd, it has a decent jump range.

Its a good move because it only costs you 100k really with trading it back in and you can easily make that in one trip. And you get all the money back off equipment. Its over 100k for a 32t cargo slot.

A word of warning though. Dont make the same mistake I did. I sold all the gear and swapped it back for my fully equipped cobra, well thats what I thought I was doing, I didnt read it properly and actually sold my cobra by accident instead. :) You need to swap it for your cobra, then sell it.

Thank you for the comments
I'm currently sitting on about 1.5mil (above the insurance cost of my Cobra and enough for a load of cargo)
I'll keep going until I get to about 3mil then and see what I can do
Sounds like its worth keeping the shields, maybe I'll swap them out for more trade space later if I feel brave!

1.5M is enough. Its about 1.1M for the ship, and I sold off one or 2 parts of my cobra that I knew the station sold so I could buy it back. Even if you dont do that, you can make money faster in a stock 1.1M type 6 than a cobra trading. I started trading 50t of gold, each trip bought myself another cargo rack, till I was doing 100t,

D rated gear is great for the jump distance so for a trading vessel this is deffo the best stuff, people always say get the A rated FSD, whilst this is desirable it costs more than the ship. I am running with a B rated FSD and have no problems getting any where I have kept my shields and am running with 104t capacity. I also strip the weapons off of my ship, don't see the point in having weapons reduce the jump range.

I've just loaded up on rares, going to do a long haul and return with those then go for the purchase I think! (**hears the scribble of pencil on paper as dozens of pirates make a note of his name!***)

I would swap your cobra to a viper, just for kills, its cheaper plus more cash to spend on the T6 :)
A Viper is on my wish-list, but I just have to keep the Cobra, nostalgia and all that :)

I recommend Class B FSD to start with a Class A power plant (Awesome Heat Management), and class D everything else. Then I took a tier 2 Class A fuel scoop, with 100T cargo you make good money and don't have to pay for fuel. I've since class A'd my entire ship, more as an investment than anything, definitely not required.

Some people say to drop shields, I upgraded mine to class A, just to give me a bit more time for the FSD to charge after interdictions. I did drop weapons since this is not a combat ship though, right now I have a 18.6 ly laden jump range, and I believe a 26 unladen jump range.

I have a 100t 6 with A rated shield and fuel scoop (essential for long hauls IMO)

no weapons, scanners etc

i got A rated power plant, thrusters, FSD

dumpin shields is worth it on ships below a 6, but with the value of cargo it can carry then the potential loss vs additional cargo capacity doesn't add up

You need at least 4.5mil credits to think buying T6, that money will let you to nicely outfit T6, fill cargo space with goods and have some insurance. If outfitting with average modules, then 3.5mil (ship+insurance+outfitting+goods)

The selling price of my outfitted T6 is 3.5mil, insurance about 200,000cr, money needed to fill cargo space in average 750,000cr.

My T-6 was worth around 11 million credits. All gear was A-ratet and the biggest amour on board. No weapons only defense stuff, like chaff and flair launcher. Class 5A shield and 64 ton cargospace. Was perfect for rare trading. And a lot of fun. The old lady could take a lot of punishment and was able to get away. Was a lot of fun. Every run got me a little bit more than 2 million credits.

Sold her for an ASP. Will later buy one again. Just for the fun...
