Type-7 Thruster upgrade

My main money making ship is a Type-7, my plan is to trade heavily until I get a Type-9, and then relax and do some bounty hunting/exploring in my other ships. If I'm flying my Eagle I want the best thrusters, but I'm confused about the bigger ships.

I love flying the big ships, the huge inertia and slow reactions require a unique style of flying. Is there any advantage to upgrading thrusters apart from faster acceleration/declaration, and top speed? I don't want my type-7 to feel more nimble, but if it changes the flight dynamics for the better, then perhaps I should purchase an upgrade. Have spent around 14million on other components, so the ship is nearly top spec.

Cheers

Since thruster tie in with Flight Assist, yes thruster upgrades will help to not feel like you're flying a buttered bathtub. :D

I'm doing the same as you, using my type 7 to get a type 9. I've upgraded everything in my type 7 except the thrusters. I'm very happy with the 7's handling without the need for a thruster upgrade. Apart from slightly better maneuvering I personally won't be bothering.

I think the type 9 will be a different story though... it'll need all the handling help you can throw at it. :D

I'm a ways behind you guys. I have an Asp and making some reasonable cash, and working my way up to affording a Type 7. How do you rate it ? I guess it hauls about 200T ? Do you find you are able to earn some serious money with that ?
At present I suppose it's the only viable step up between a ship that hauls around 100T and a Type 9 ?
My time in game isn't really big enough to keep the Asp AND save up for a Type 7, so would you recommend part exchanging the Asp as part payment for the Type 7, or would you stick with the Asp and have patience and wait to buy a Type 7 ? Can you escape attack well enough in the type 7, I plan to just be a trader but fear it's not very well kitted out to defend itself ?

when i had a type 9 in beta i noticed that thrusters made it much more manoeuvrable :D

it will go from buttered bath tub to coconut oiled arm chair :D

232 cargo ! NICE. Are you able to keep shields with that ?

I think with the larger ships the power distributor is more important, so you can boost constantly. Weight is usually my primary concern to get the largest jump range.

you can do 232 max

its about heat management as well

Well in any case, if you don't need a better thruster, you could still upgrade to a D-rated one, as that has a lower mass than the E-rated ones. :)

Ok, well I decided what the heck and tried the thruster upgrade, to my surprise the ship actually flies a lot smoother (I have a HOTAS & Pedals)

When I say smoother I don't mean faster turn rate etc, it still feels like a heavy ship, and yaw/pitch/roll/top speed has increased slightly.. The main thing for me is thruster response and inertia seems improved. I mainly fly FA OFF and can notice a difference.

Would be good to know from the dev's what the thruster upgrade changes, it seems to be more than a simple increase in roll/pitch/speed values. Seems like a change in flight dynamics.

I sold a fully kitted out ASP to buy a Type-7. If I'm honest the only reason I bought the Type-7 was because of the Oculus rift, I just had to sit in that huge bridge first hand.

The Type-7 itself is a good ship, as others mentioned it can haul a nice amount of cargo, makes me around 1million an hour (casual trading on a good route) I have 4 mult icannon's, they do a good job of defending, I would run from a human interdiction tho. The Ship get's very hot on multiple jumps, Only way to fix it is to buy the best power plant to keep the ship cool. All in all, it is cheaper early access ship for those needing a Type-9 fix.

The ASP (Which I didn't like in Beta 3) Is an awesome ship in my opinion, good visibility, amazing weapon and utility loadout, pretty good cargo space and can land at outposts.

If you find a good trade route, 1000+c per ton, you can buy another ASP very quickly if trading with the Type-7.

I think you need a few ships - each for different things. If you sell the Asp you are left with nothing to fight in, or do very long distance trips easily. Just trading all day is going to get a bit dull.

I kept the Asp, got the type 7, then bought and pimped out a Viper (for the conflict zones) and a Sidey (full a fit is cheap as chips) for jumping around between ships and its great for the naval progression fetch/courier missions. I'm thinking that when I get the 'next' ship (Python maybe?) I'll re-fit the asp for long range deep space exploration, because i haven't really tried that type of play yet.

This is all fantasy.
I bought A7 thrusters for my T9 for 51 million. The only result was increase of the topspeed on burners till 210. 5% he-he...
Thats all.
Maybe your ship will be less maneuverable if its weight is more than recommended to your thrusters. But it never adds maneuverability.
