Ships Type-8, three months later - for what would you recommend it for?

For some time now I have been doing a lot of mining. It turned out to be the fastest way for me to make enough money to buy my Carrier. Before that I used to trade a lot. Mostly Imperial Slaves.

I am no longer sure how to get good trade info any more. I used to use the old site eddb.io that is now defunct. It was really easy to use to make trading profitable. I am not having nearly as much luck with INARA.

Any advice how to start trading again? Thanks!
I was never one for research into states and supply and demand I also don’t use trading to get big money.

But I went old school with my trading and dug around in my dustier bookmarks to find my old rare goods trading loops, then I just made my way from one system to the next buying each rare as I found it and selling when I would get more than 15,000 a unit profit.
I didn’t visit every station with rare goods as with one (in)famous exception I only have ones with large pads bookmarked. I used to use an Orca.

There were a couple of blips on the way, I was too slow getting into one station so got fined for illegal goods and later round the circuit I was too slow leaving the area of another station and got fined again. The fines are based on the basic price so are no big deal.

As I wasn’t doing it for anything other than fun I wasn’t flying as hard as possible and I wasn’t checking states to see if hanging around at a station would let me acquire more cargo as sometimes stations spawn less cargo than the limit for the rare good.

Several NPCs tried to interdict me at intermediate and destination stars, sometimes they were dragged out by the star, some didn’t get that close but were slowed so much they never got in range before my next jump.
Some actually got to use their Interdictor for a brief while until they too failed.

My ship was unarmed and didn’t have a scoop or an FSD booster, to be honest as I was just going through the stations as I found them not following a planned loop a scoop would have been a good idea as I was arriving with nearly dry tanks a couple of times after a six jump leg.

Not a lot of replies to this thread. I am guessing people played with them a little and they are now collecting dust with the other less useful ships and have gone back to their Anacondas, Cutters and such. Just a guess.

Not really. The T-8 is not a glamorous ship, but the people who want it know exactly why they need it and many are probably just waiting to get it for credits. We're talking about a group who painstakingly study trade routes and patiently execute the plan without fanfare.

No drama or flash, you won't see them often here.

I love the T-8.
Mining, salvage, rescue and trading. Pretty much made my fleet of pythons obsolete as the T-8 does all those roles better than the python.

Sep, 4 months now. I wonder if they make it 5 for the Mandalay, then 6 for the Cobra V....

A delay on the Cobra Mk5 I can very well believe . FD will want to get that ship in particular exactly right.

There's already speculation the three man crew means it'll carry an SLF, which is something not even the uber Mandalay has 🤷‍♂️

For me the main problem with the Type 8 is, that I want to use it as a multipurpose ship for mining/trading/raw materials farming etc. excluding combat but the ship has lack of medium hardpoints... less effective small mining lasers, and the main problem for me - no small flak launchers available for raw materials farming. IT should have at least 2 medium hardpoints, better 3... in this case, it would be Python killer with much more cargo space and very good boost speed and hull armor.

But despite what I wrote, I am still thinking about getting one Stellar version...

I would suggest fixing the firing groups of the Stellar Type-8 so they actually fire the weapons after purchasing the ship.

What's up with them?
I've just used one in colonia for bounty hunting.
Only minor issue I had was the underneath laser sometimes didn't fire due to its location.
Worked fine, for a non combat ship, in a haz res. Biit slow though due to unemgineered gimballed MCs. What weapons are you using?
Only used it to unlock the engineer while my combat vulture is on its way from the bubble. .

There is a fire group bug that occurs. To date, the fire group bug blocks firing the hardpoints. The player can correct this by storing hardpoints then re-slotting the hardpoints except on the pre-builts, you destroy the hardpoints that come with the purchase.

Mines a rares runner what with PP2.0.
356 ton cargo, size 2 emergency fuel scoop, size 4 Guardian fsd booster, makes for a good ship. All G5 except the guardian size 4 PP to extend range. No weps and as small a shield as possible. Propped up with shield boosters. Unladen about 48ly dropping as l load up.
The thing l do like about it is seen as its 3 pips in engines n shields it's very quick to land. I'm debating a cold build to negate heat 🥵 when smuggling or avoiding enemy PP2.0 at ports. But to date I've not had an issue. All my ships have heatsinks which offset silent running internal heat build up.
It's cargo capacity is a winner over the python.
No downsides really.
Just don't like the look of it tbh reminds me of that other games small salvager.

I am of the opinion that the T8 is still waiting for its role.

With the advent of colonisation my thought processes are working along the lines of some kind of truck or container ship.

The design is so far out from the norm, and I do include the T7 that it begs the question why?

All I have to go on are some design features, however FDEV do use in game features to test and who is to say that the moving engines cannot be used on those obvious fork lifts on the T8.

In hopeful anticipation I have called my T8 the Nostromo ;)

Oh. I've not experienced that bug with t8 combat. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I did some silent running last night with my T8...Armoured G5 thermal spread PP, G5 clean drives, thermal spread.
Had a heatsink to offset heat build up...didn't need it. 44% heat when I landed.

Errrr...it's the best medium trader and rescue ship. Out performs the python by a country mile.

The Stellar Type-8 with 40% discount is mine from yesterday and after an hour of play I realized it is IMHO the best trading ship out there. Massive 340 cargo compared to 230 on my Python with the same shield protection and fuel scooping. And to have the best profit I found out it is much better to have a medium size ship to be able to land on a small station. And there is no fear I will be interdicted like with a slow Type 9.
