UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

Sending the paint job now. Thought you might like a looks at my cover letter:

---------------------

Hi folks,

Here's a submission for a paint-job for Unknown Artefact hunters, experimentors and theorists. The morse on the sides spell "The Canonn". The design is on a cobra, but think of it more as a concept using the Cobra as an example. The paint-job can be adapted to any ship.

Now, I know this is probably not general enough to win the competition but I have a little thought for you. Since "The Cannon" and other groups and lone commanders have put so much effort into the UA mystery (all quite ineffectively, but hey) and probably inadvertantly provided lots of unnoficial PR for Elite Dangerous, perhaps it would be nice to do a little giveaway on this? Just a humble suggestion, no need to spit out your tea or anything :)

Yours sincerely,

CMDR Kyp Shard

Nice! Made of win :)

probably nothing to do with UA, but as I was flying back to human space to carry out some repairs, I encountered this SSS, which is a new one to me. An orca and it was talking about family an how they look after each other and how if I paid them money I would have all my sins forgiven.

Well done!

pfft even in 3301 there are teleevangelists who just want your money. unbelieveable!

If they don't let us use the morse for "the canonn" we could use the voyager morse outlining the edges, similar to how the elvish outlines the ring of power in the Lord of the rings. I'm no good at art but I'll try to make a skin up for the asp.

Er, my mistake. I thought voyager emitted morse.

Maybe the UA is the Tamagotchi of the 34th century. You have to feed it, keep it entertained, don't let it die.

I actually said something similar to this with my Pet Rock comment. The unsettling part is that I believe the Thargoids may be observing what we are doing with it to determine if we are worthy of actual diplomatic relations.

Also another random test. Has anyone tried playing "what is love" to it to see if it starts bobbing its head or something. Nothing in the universe can resist that power.

I bet there's a thread just like this somewhere, but with Thargoids typing on it.

Clickkity clicckikity clickkity? HOOONK!!! (the hairless pinkies have to be putting all these stupid beeping metallic things around stars. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY FOR?!?)

Chirp---cliikiyty clikkyt click!? HOOOOUUUNK!!! (maybe if we send out some of our >>>><> and try to sound like theirs maybe they will talk to us? THIS IS TAKING TOO LONG!!!>

Grrrrumpp.... Gruuummppp!!!! (seriously /r/ThargoidNavBeacon has all the answers!)

HOOONK!!! (SHUT UP! N00B)

This is probably happening in some galaxy way out there or in a mirror universe

So, to be clear, Black Holes are either distribution points or destination points for UAs...? Can we confirm this?

IE - There is a prevalence of UA within X light seconds of a black holes or specific black hole. (This statement needs defining better with data.)

Here's the thing... if you start looking near black holes and you find a bunch, that doesn't prove they spawn near black holes. The real test would be to have a bunch of people doing UA hunts in a bunch of different systems at a bunch of different distances from a bunch of different objects and then record the results (including null). Science is hard guys.

Assuming the black hole is feeding on something, then it will be emitting higher levels of energy than the star? So not just mass - energy too?

Admittedly - the other behaviour we have - Morse - appears to be based on mass, so, it's a bit of a reach :)

Active black holes only emit energy in a few ways:
Hawking radiation
Accretion disk heating
Polar jets
and Gravitational waves

I don't think any of the black holes in the game are active in this way (even though Sag A* probably should be). There are theoretical ways to steal energy from a black hole basically by robbing it of some of its angular momentum, but I'm having a hard time seeing what that could have to do with a UA.

"Succeed or not it will unlock". Even if that does mean FD will just reveal everything if we don't figure it out, it doesn't actually say when. It could be 1.4 but equally it could be Horizons.

Maybe there is a region that the UA unlocks like a permit. Kerrash might just have been hinting that the region will unlock even if we don't figure it out, but that wouldn't necessarily mean that FD would reveal anything explicitly.

There's an entire region called Hyponia that is currently locked. It's a long trip up one of the arms.

Regarding the latest Dev update.

They stated that CGs were an integral tool to progress the story arcs. On the may 27th Galnet report, they ended one article with an invitation for Commanders to head to Leoniceno Orbital in Azaleach, to help look for the lost ship. Has anyone checked if there is an ongoing CG in the station?

Direct Quote: "The Federal Navy are requesting that any pilots interested in helping to search along the Starflight One route should sign up for active duty as a member of the search and rescue team aboard Leoniceno Orbital in Azaleach."
