Are we talking about the Standard DS or the Advanced DS?
Or just the normal scanner, the one that scan bodies automatically, while closing to them?

My Asp has an Advanced and a surface scanner. For clarity, it is when I have jumped into a fresh (for me) system and first lock the primary star. As well the purring I (think I) hear the Morse chitter at the start of the scan sequence.

No, but hardly anyone is looking. Timocani traffic report has only 7 ships, and I am 2 of them.
I have not done as much hunting as I would like (I got Dangerous and Vice Admiral instead) but there has been a conspicuous lack of Hafnium Convoys (0). No positive correlation, but I have always associated Hafniums with a decent chance of UA.

I have not been in Timocani but during my time in Chamunda trying to find a UA I discovered 7 hafnium convoys in the span of 2 days probably around 3.5-4 hours total..... :)

I hear it a lot when exploring and scanning.
Starts slow and increases in tempo as the scan gets nearer completing. Depends on range how fast it scans, slower further away slower tempo.other sounds present too. Howling whistle sound on return signal increasing pitch till complete scan
I assume its your scan outgoing, then the signal returning to the scanner as it's analysed.

You are quite wrong, we can detect Dark Matter because of exert gravitational effects on normal, visible matter. We cannot see dark matter because it doesn't emit light by pure definition we can only assume it's composition, we cannot measure dark matter... nasa published long ago that it believe that it's made of 85% of all the universe matter which is approximately 42 times the mass of a proton, greater than 40 giga-electron volts (GeV). These are only observations that led astronomers to estimate that the dark stuff could make up as much as 85% of all matter in the universe so again it's only all theories, next thing you know there is something else out there.

Let me give you an example :

Hubble Space Telescope, observe galaxies and we know they are spinning but without Dark matter they would spin so fast that they should have been ripped apart long ago because the gravity produced by observable matter is insufficient to glue them together. That’s why scientists think something invisible is giving them that extra gravity they need to remain intact so yes infact Dark Matter is interacting with matter itself, in theory but nothing is certain which is why we assume roughly 80 percent of the mass of the universe is made up of Dark Matter and that it exert gravity on most of our celestial objects.

If you like science I suggest you to read about Sterile Neutrino theories, we believe that they do not interact via any of the fundamental interactions of the Standard Model except gravity. This what we believe Dark Matter is made of "hypothetical particles neutral leptons and neutrinos".

Your reading comprehension needs work. Read the rest of my debate with Murp and try again.

So the floaters were found in HR 1172, HR 1185, and Pleiades Sector IR-W D1-34. Joining those systems makes a reasonable straight line so I tried to extrapolate and ended up in Pleiades GW-W C1-5 (between Taygeta and HIP 18050) and came across a SSS with a big convoy. Unfortunately my Asp is not equipped with a cargo scanner. Is this a regular occurrence or slightly odd?

Not the right sort of convoy. The appearance of convoys, large battles, and NPCs in rings in these systems is a bit silly. It seems that ED adjusts the number of NPCs in SC for the system's remoteness but still generates some pretty busy SS. And also generates NPCs if you drop into a ring.

And in some cases, to a Black Hole (Maia B and its friendly system defence vessel).

Looks like a standard convoy, possibly carrying Hafnium.

Does not look like an Unknown Artefact transport.

edit: RW already said.

guess Government is Dictatorship, location is important we need a science station and a blackmarket (start selling UA's to ourselves ;)) and I assume we are Independent? oh cant forget the Tinfoil Hats :D

some where close to Polaris so when Thargoids are introduced we can be neighbors :D

Not really you just lack proper ways of explaining yourself, you said : Dark matter, by definition, is detectable only due to its mass. In a way you are correct because mass is a property of a physical body which determines the strength of its mutual gravitational attraction to other bodies but in way you should have said Dark Matter is detected by the gravity and motion it exert on matter, it's a better way to put it.
