UA Mystery Thread 3: The Canonn

I have one audio file already, shot at Arietis Sector JB-X B1-0, around the main star. You can download the recording here. I'm in an Anaconda, but the sound was mostly recorded through the debug camera, in nighttime mode.
Note that the end includes the sound of an UA getting destroyed (did they always make this sound?), as I bumped it with my cargo scoop. So now I'm down to two artefacts left.
I'll make more recordings later, but I should probably switch to a smaller ship first.

Same ship/different location, or different ship/same location would help

I'm still throwing ideas so feel free to ignore my posts. Ok so it's not a Playfair cipher, but what about a Four-square cipher? It seems to be able to handle double letters, doesn't it?

Ok CMDRs,
I took a video of the UA 5 minutes ago, in 64 Arietis and recorded the morse sequence: I ask the morse experts to translate it, so that we can see what sequrnce we have here:

https://youtu.be/rIr3s4bL-gE

Unfortunately, being a decaying UA, it has that BG sound, that covers the morse a little, making it a little bit harder to translate.

Thanks CMDR!

It's not an error.

Michael

Oh my god...! *faints*

I really dont think its morse. They have done that.

It is, thrust me ;)
And the 6 letter sequences we are finding are the new "thing" the UA does together with scanning you and pointing to Merope.
Now we must understand what is it.

The idea of them being coordinates and Merope being 0,0,0 it is very good indeed. I second it a lot.

The square cypher seems like an idea to me as well...

It works kinda like this (although I botched it somewhere):

1 2 3 4 5 6
1 A B C D E F
2 G H I J K L
3 M N O P Q R
4 S T U V W X
5 Y Z

So...To spell out CAT with this grid would be

1,3 1,1 4,2

US pilots used this kind of thing in Vietnam to "talk" to each other in the Hanoi Hilton, by tapping out messages on their walls. I wonder if the UAs are doing something similar?

Just because it isnt morse, doesnt mean it isnt binary. They are not the same thing at all.

Obvious

It's not an error.

Priceless ... ;-)

Also from 2.424ly -> MEROPE:
2424ly_MEROPE.jpg
For a last time (easy to verify):
The UA points not to MEROPE as a freefloater.
If you enter the SSS (100% UA) then it realing in that direction and if CMDR drop from cargo, then yes.
With scan <1000m or without scan.
Makes for me a little difference!
Can be pure camouflage/distraction from reply source above or from game lore UA constructor.
"Ah, stupid human detected ... lets realign"
If not: all wanted "coordinates" so badly. Now (lets) have fun in MEROPE ! :D

We salute you!

Do we know it's repeatable yet? That is, has anyone tested whether the morse is the same in two different recordings (at same place, same ship etc)?

Same ship/different location, or different ship/same location would help

There you go, for your listening pleasure. 2 recordings from the randomly chosen system Paesan. Recorded in deep space, same instance (just dropped twice).

If there's someone in need of an UA or two, let me know in game, or be silent forever. I'm near Varati.

How about... its binary:

765+,572+,263- (+/- may be reversed)

Using Merope as the base, I get either:

685,422,-603 - Nothing
845,722,77 - Pretty Close to WREGOE NI-M B52-0 (about 1 Kylie out from the bubble?)

Close enough due to my reading of where Merope is ? (-80,-150,-340)

I'm new to this, so forgive me for asking stupid questions...

If this is an alien artifact (assumption) - why on earth would it be using Morse code?

Would it not be using something more basic, and something not based on a alphabet from our culture? A plain binary stream for example?

Well, either (a) this is pure handwavium to avoid the challenges of xenocryptology (or whatever), or, (b) it is not a purely alien artefact...
