Ok folks new theory:
Ambient sounds can help detect systems or areas of Alien influence.
Take a listen to the ambient sounds uploaded here. This was recorded minutes ago, in my ASP in Merope. Only a few hundred Ls from the main star. I raised the volume of the recording using an online tool by 10 Db's, but it might still sound quite low to you so you may have to crank up the volume of your speakers a bit to hear all the little details:
Merope Ambient Sounds
At the start you will hear me come to a full stop in my ASP, then make sure my sensors are turned off (they produce a very rhythmic bass sound otherwise) and then turn off my thrusters. Then start listening closely. You will hear the background ambient sounds, very subtle, quite calm. In between you'll start hearing familiar sounds. Suspicious and subtle. Then metallic sounds will start popping up here and there, distinct and almost rhythmic. Those will continue to pop up untill the end of the recording.
Especially pay close attention to:
01:25 - 01:32
02:08 - 02:15
02:38 - 02:44
You will hear static very similar (if not identical) to the Unknown Probe Discovery Scan Response. I have not had much time to test but you can hear similar (if not the same) ambient sounds in systems all over up to 300 LY from Merope. However if you are in the human inhabited bubble and populated systems, you will not hear this. Instead you will hear radio chatter. According to a friend, a fellow knight Cmdr Dpjon who is mid way to Jacques station said that he could hear no ambient sounds whatsoever when he turned off his thrusters and sensors. If you are far away from the bubble you may not hear any ambient sounds at all. This needs confirmation though.
Can someone please run one of those sound analysis and a spectrograms to see if we get anything similar from these?
