Maybe not the right thread for this question but any News on that "Special Ship" who scanned the Obsidian Orbital Station? The Galnet News said it was flying around the Station searching for something.

I spent some time last week flying around Obsidian Orbital looking for any markings or things that might indicate something ... but did not see anything that stood out.

I believe it was me who you met with there. Here's a screenshot showing the contacts:

A lump of nickel showed up on my contact list when I flew in the direction of the contacts. I think that caused the anomaly.

I parked my ship near by for the week last Saturday and flew back to the crashed Anaconda and Barnacles today. I did roughly the same things I did last time and the anomaly appeared again. I shot at the spikes and grey targets appeared on my SRV radar that weren't there (after collecting a meta-alloy fragment). I got a bit freaked out (Don't know why but I did and it was dark). I decided to take off in my ship and when I got a reasonable distance away the grey targets showed as ships on radar, some with guns out and some without. If I headed towards the targets eventually they would turn grey again.

It is reproducible, so either a bug or something more interesting... I reckon/hope the latter :D Perhaps some sort of interdimensional tare is showing up Thargoids on the radar even if we can't see them out of the window.

@Anubite, I didn't notice any new Barnacles growing sorry.

I'm afraid that is just what the scanner does with any contact when you are too far away from it to get a solid lock. The contact becomes an unresolved contact and will flicker between looking like a npc ship with weps deployed and npc ship with weps retracted. Also the contact will jump around on the scanner a bit only giving you a genenral direction on where the contact is. Once you get closer and the scanner can actually tell what the contact is it will resolve into whatever the appropriate symbol is for that contact. This happens with all types of contacts, ships, cargo containers, high and low wakes, meta-alloys. Basically anything that can show up on the scanner will exhibit this behavior.

Don't suppose anybody has been storing these for rapid retrieval? Is there a link? Before Christmas I went back a few months via the Galnet interface & its a bit slooow

Google <keyword> site:community.elitedangerous.com

EDIT: ninjad, sort of.

I was rummaging through one of the old threads and found this:

Only explanation: Han_Zen knows stuff! This was 5 months prior to barnacle discovery.
(not been able to +rep lately so spreading some +awe instead)

It must be Friday
Cheers
DZ

There is another explanation. Han_Zen's post inspired FD to put barnacles in the game

EDIT: and now I did it again.

Shutting up for tonight.

Anybody else getting massive frame rate drops when looking at the Pleiades Nebula on the Galaxy map, I go from 60 FPS on ultra settings to about 15-30, this only happens when looking at the Pleiades nebula, no other nebula does this. This never used to happen a while back? Thargoids lagging the game?

Disappointing :(

i have had a little thought.

Presuming Frontier actually wants us to find Raxxla sometime between now and the end of their ten years plan but not to quickly that would get discovered in weeks or months,

I believe they would have planted it somewhere between the bubble and a major tourist attraction.

Now if they put it anywhere near a tourist attraction near the bubble it would be found fairly quickly, to me this rule out any of the local tourist attractions near the bubble.

I don't think they would put it in any of the areas that have been cordoned off areas set aside for future content.

An it needs to be a big enough area that it would go undiscovered for a while.

This lead me to believe that Raxxla lies on the path between the bubble and Sagittarius A, probably somewhere on , slightly off to the right or left of a direct route probably around the halfway mark.

Of cause I could be completely wrong. But it seem to me that any other location would all but eliminate our chances of finding it in our life times. It still a huge area through.

If you look at sothis, there is a little arm of systems that reaches out of the bubble towards Polaris. To me, this is setting up for a classic case of the "strange sightings near a mining facility on the outskirts of human space" that are so predominant as a SciFi trope.

Sap8 has an odd crystalline structure that sounds similar to Sothis Gold. GalNet articles about Sirius randomly expanding into systems and building starports used to be fairly common. If this were real life, I'd say Sirius Gov knows something, and they know where to look.

If anyone else gets the hint of tinfoil from all this, head to your galmap and search for sothis. Change your filter to display only populated systems and look at the little arm reaching out toward Polaris. Somethings up.

here is the arm as it leaves the bubble:

(closest to bubble)
Te Kaha
HIP 8396
Takurua
Almagest
Robigo
Ceos
Sothis

Great Theory but wasn't Sothis Gold thought by a player and added to the game as part of a competition Frontier ranned?

Not sure, I dont remember. But that doesnt explain the the line of systems reaching out toward Polaris. AFAIK there isnt another "branch" like this.

sirius inc continues its support for sirius corporation and has always been at the forefront of the polaris / sothis connection. Could say we are experts on it.

Yep. Sothis Gold was the result of a player-submitted CG.

Yeah it was actually my own sirius inc groups efforts that got the 70 of the 100 votes that got it into second place, and we provided security during the CG, so credit where credit is due, we remain active in other areas as well to this day and our user base is tripled in the meantime

I hate to post another 'has anyone tried...' thing but:

Has anyone tried scanning a barnacle in their SRV (datalink) with a Sap8 Core Container on board? Since they are believed to hold encrypted data?

So, I've been quiet for a while, and haven't been tracking this for a long time. But I've got two quick questions regarding UA's and station malfunctions:

1. Are there still new reports of station malfunctions occurring, and
2. When was the most recent Galnet report on station malfunctions? Doesn't seem to have been one in March.

Have a pretty,,, well,, interesting, idea on why Walker Survey never failed. I just want to make sure failures are still happening before I sink effort into things, but this may have consequences for "repairing" stations with meta alloys.
