UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Hello all, I have come across something surprising during my 5th exploration into the stars...

I found a Gas Giant with a remarkable swirl in its clouds, below:

The swirl I highlighted in the red boxes does look surprisingly similar to Barnard's Loop - side-by-side comparison:

Perhaps the symbol on the Barnacles could mean more than just a Nebula?

Discuss? ;)

May we put it on the Canonn Codex page together with the first one?

Done in our new 'science' section - under which all the UA and Barnacle content is now grouped.

Also added Locastan's Freelance Science Opportunities page live too that he prepped for us earlier :D

- - - - - Additional Content Posted / Auto Merge - - - - -

yep that works, as long as its visible to the public.

Edit:
And as long as the author doesnt mind

Already been in touch with Locastan about this - going to try and get him into Galnet too as a counterpoint to our earlier article about the original possible discovery of the firefly fandango.

Edit: now where did I put that time machine to make enough hours in the day

What conditions did the planet have? Can you show us the info panel with the detailed surface scan data about surface temperature and metal content?

Also published another paper in my imgur album:

Have a good one guys. :)

Very Nice ! I am still holding out on the pollination effects of the fandango though... Having experimented with the fandango effect before ... I think pollination has a certain statistical probability attached to it.

Maybe they'll only become fertile in the right season/light levels/temperature
Or maybe they don't like you looking at them when they're trying to get cozy :D

So Frontier want us to transport the UA somewhere, somewhere pretty far away if we will need special modules to transport the UA there. Or may be the modules will somehow activate the UA latent power.

Towards the Rift perhaps? 7 veils, 7 markings and all that.
Find the right system and one marking goes dark?

When I'm back in game tonight I'll get started on this new CG as that makes the most sense, those UA protection modules will be real handy. It might also mean they need us to transport muliple UA's somewhere. I haven't seen the tiers yet but I hope we can get this one done. If they are hinting we just need to transport one UA somewhere, I suspect we could already do that. I'm sure someone has already taken one to SAG A.

As much as MA farming frustrates me, I'll chip in with this, my UA farming activities could really do with the extra resistance for collecting them. Unfortunately it ends while I'm away for a month, so I won't see the results til after that.

For those in the Canonn, just sayin', I scratch your back, you scratch mine ;)

That is a good point, real world analogue, the whole "female praying mantises cannibalize the male during copulation" myth started because the observation of the act was done with bright lights and leering giants watching and tapping on the walls of the box and so the female ate the male out of fear and panic... allegedly, If I remember things right.

Also slowly filling up my python with MAs, how long does it take for a spike to mature after I've harvested the two that are ready to pick as soon as the instance loads? My apologies if this is well known information, first time actually collecting them.

Your support is appreciated :D

And I'm sure an arrangement can be reached ;)

Dr Arc has issued a formal please to support this CG. Might make it to Galnet next week, but in the meantime: http://canonn.science/2016/03/25/dr...ast-push-for-meta-alloys-to-obsidian-orbital/

i don't remember who posted a video with the suspect of ''strange background soises'' heared in the cockpit.. but
yesterday i heard the same, me too.
Actually i am still investigating in the pleiades area and maybe i am a little paranoic but...
i don't know.. those noises are very strange to me, they are not the usual noises i hear in the bubble space.

i tried to catch a video of that moment but you should raise the volume to hear it well..

error: this film is private.

it's ok now

music is ''muted''
scanner is silenced
thrusters are 'offline'
despite that, a soft weird background music is present

but the problem is:
do you hear those little electric scratching sound sometimes ?

Hi all,

I'm currently in the woods with limited mobile access and no ED. This theory might belong in the Rift thread, but that one is moving to fast at the moment.

Several people have posted about possible connection between 7 veils and colours. This makes sence in a way.

Kahina described her visit to Earth as 'Enlightening' and she received a 'luminating' drink as a gift.

A Prism will give a spectrum of 7 colours: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Cyan, Indigo and Violet.

'Goodluck, and ... Right On, Commander' Can be interpreted as: 'Green, Red-Orange, Cyan'

Colours have a frequency range.

Red-Orange has a frequency of 480 THz. Reorte and Riedqat has a Y coord. of 48.

Could colour frequency be coordinates?

Cross post from the Rift thread as I thought it might be useful for commanders here while you're farming barnacles for MAs for the CG. It gives you something less mindless to focus on while you're grabbing pods too.

It's a quick guide on where to get jumponium, mainly from barnacle farming. Looking at the hints coming through from FD we may be doing a fair bit of long distance travel soon.
-----

Merope 5C barnacles yield Yttrium, Arsenic and Germanium
Pleiades sector JC-U B3-2 1 barnacles yield chromium, niobium and vanadium
Pleiades sector JC-U B3-2 2 barnacles yield Niobium, Germanium and cadmium
Pleione 11A barnacles yield Yttrium Arsenic and Germanium
Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16 C4 barnacles yield chromium, nickel and niobium
**EDIT Pleiades Sector IH-V C2-16 Planet D3 now has confirmed barnacles and they yield Polonium**
---
I then go to Heilelang 3 and scour the surface rocks for polonium (EDIT - Polonium bearing barnacles now listed above instead. I've left this in for people that don't want to farm barnies). It also yields niobium, germanium and vanadium there. Great planet that isn't low gravity so they don't fly off all over the place. Find a flat area and search around for metallic meteorites for best results (two lines on the lower part of the radar). the rocks that are a single line on the bottom of the radar can give some rare minerals too. I tend to land at 8.59, 15.24 and then drive back and to towards 8.59, 15.26 which was suggested by another commander a while back on reddit (username non_idea). Nice flat area where you seem to find a few groups of three metallic meteorites fairly frequently.
Merope 1A is good for Zinc and cadmium (Zinc, nickel, chromium and vanadium are needed for basic AFM refills)
---
Basic AFM refill = 2 nickel, 2 zinc, 2 chromium and 3 vanadium
Basic SRV refuel = 1 sulphur and 1 phosphorous
Basic SRV repair = 2 iron, 1 nickel
Jumponium 25% boost = 2 vanadium and 1 germanium
Jumponium 50% boost = 1 vanadium, 1 germanium, 2 cadmium and 1 niobium
Jumponium 100% boost = 3 niobium, 1 arsenic, 1 yttrium and 1 polomium
--
Be prepared and travel with plenty of the minerals you need and throw away the junk that you'll probably never use.

My final cargo of materials before I leave for the Rift will be:

4 iron
6 nickel
4 zinc
2 sulphur
2 phosphorous
4 chromium
112 vanadium
58 germanium
20 cadmium
13 arsenic
49 niobium
13 yttrium
13 polonium
--
Gives me:

48 x 25% FSD boosts
10 x 50% FSD boosts
13 x 100% FSD boosts
2 x SRV basic refuels
2 x SRV basic repairs
2 x AFM basic refills

Happy shopping/barnacle farming (bear in mind we may get in trouble later on for treating these poor things like cattle)

----

For barnacle friendly jumponium farming try:
---
Heilelang 2 (try around 0.3729, -75.6871, courtesy of the commander who mentioned Heilelang as a good source for jumponium on reddit previously, username non_idea) is a good source of yttrium.
Heilelang 3 (8.5923, 15.2435) has plenty of polonium, niobium, vanadium and germanium.
Merope 1A is good for Cadmium and Zinc.
Shinrarta Dezhra 1 (28.9126, -36.7043) gives arsenic, niobium and polonium but isn't a nice higher G world which makes collecting the minerals easier.
