UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

Has anybody tried placing a UA into a capital ship conflict zone or just near a capital ship in general? It would be interesting to see what the capital ship does in response to being scanned by it.

Thanks,

Omate.

My vote: Basingstoke. It's not too cold, not too warm - just the kind of calm, uninteresting place someone would need after travelling all that dead space.

Plus - if you're an alien looking to level it, then nobody'd really mind.

any residents of Basingstoke - I'm talking about how the town will be in 3302 of course....

(A mild improvement on what it is now)
;)

LZ, I so want to rep that! but can't for some reason - I'm on mobile
VIRTUAL REP +1!

Any word on your CV1?

Done it. Nothing happened. I was silent and cold, just next to the cap ship. It did not react.

CV1 is due between 16th and 26th May \o/ A bit later than originally expected, but I'm easy since they did away with the delivery charge, and there's a small chance it might arrive in time for my birthday :)

Also, since the 1.3 update the DK2 has been a nice experience too. What I'm about to say might not suggest that: Haven't tried SLI yet, the brightness is shot to bits and Super Sampling doesn't seem to work properly (certainly kills the frame rate more than it should)... But, it's significantly smoother than it used to be, even on planets, and being able to record an undistorted view natively through the game bar is a nice plus.

As has been detailed on the VR forum, it does to default to windowed mode *all* the time (you can change it back though), which is a bit of a pain for mouse control, when dragging around the galaxy map for example.

Like I say though - looking forward to the full experience :)

Sorry for being OT here, and feel free to respond via PM, but I got my CV1 yesterday and I can't for the life of me figure out how to use the galaxy map with the Rift. Is there any way to select with the mouse, or do you have to do everything via HOTAS?

I really don't know if the galmap is somewhat different in VRMode but normally default control are with the mouse.
The poor me using GoogleCardboard and TrinusVR with E:D being 3D SBS, is manipulating the galmap with the HOTAS joystick and hats, because moving the arm to search for the mouse can be tricky, and i'm juste used to it either way :)

I use a combination of mouse to move over large distances, and then the index-finger hat on the throttle of my X52 to move the cursor to the exact system I want.

The hot tracking where you look is a bit frustrating to be honest, and I find trying to select a system with the mouse pointer to be nigh impossible.

You can also use wasd to move around laterally in emergencies I think.

On a completely separate note - I have now delivered 232t of MAs to Bond Hub, and have just parked up above Pleione to grab another stack on Friday. Aiming to have dumped around 450 or so there before I stop :)

Overpowered, thargoid hammers. ( 10 milion credits for anyone who gets the reference ;) )

Good work.

Your name will shine in stars together with Henson Duval and INRA when Lab69 presents their book 'heroes of inter-species relations'. :p

Let the aliens come! They might come to conquer, but they will be shown servitude and humiliation the like of which has never been seen before!

And if they torture me I will simply say 'Zoltan made me do it!'...

Oh damn.

... 'Rizal made me do it!'

Anyway, if they didn't want us using them, they shouldn't have given them to us unguarded. It's almost like we're *meant* to do it. Right? Right!? ;)

Disclaimer: I've not enrolled on Lab 69's roster all of a sudden; I'm just taking the calming words from Galnet at face value - and filling in for those brave MA grinder farmers who went before me, and who have since sought more entertaining lives in the bubble O7

PS No idea about the hammers till I googled - and get the hit 'The Hammer of Justice is Unisex'?

So, what is going on in the realm of UA's and Barnacles, I've been taking a break for the past few months. Anything new in this regard?

Well, having seen a post that stated MB had said in a livestream recently that there are things yet to be found above/below the ecliptic plane of some systems I thought- maybe there is something in Merope that would explain why the shell UAs point there. So I came back (from 800 ly into my Formidine Rift expedition) to check it out. I went up to 100,000 ls in both directions. I found a medical convoy at about 64,000ls above, a couple of pirate groups, one salvageable datastore (which I promptly ran down & destroyed 'cos I''m still getting used to my new CH Pro throttle which is much more sensitive than the X55) & nothing else. I even tried scanning all 9 asteroid belts & investigated the innermost manually, including blasting away at a few rocks just in case they were disguised Space Whales.

Think I might go off on a 12000LY trip to search the Rift after all! Maybe it's time for another clue FD! (p.s. Obsidian had zero demand last night for MAs, & their purchase price had dropped from galactic average of ~92000Cr to ~78000Cr. So when is Prof Tortega (?) going to freely elease the recipe for UA damage repairs to the bubble???

PPS According to local news the Ant Hill Mob are going to branch out into "new ventures outside the system".

fun fact: you knew that scooping a meta-alloy and then drop it from the ship it becomes a canister ?

Did someone say canisters of MA?

That's about 40-odd of 56 that were sitting in a big smelly pile of Meta!

Yeah that makes more sense lol :)

No, I think devs must do something or canonn will die from boredom.

We're expert thumb-twiddlers!

For example, one of the labs just scored a massive grant to see if they can find a the crater on an MA planet that matches the Barnacle logo; and then science the hell out of it with canisters of tea.

There are high hopes that this investigation will yield something new. If not in Barnacle science, definitely in human behavioural study.

Okay this is going to need a lot of help... Someone recently pondered the same thing, but I reckon we should test it more.

It's simple, and has been said, and tried: the logo is a location in our galaxy as viewed from another. I'm thinking, possibly from the *edge* somewhere? You know which edge I mean, right? That one that's got another big thread?

Anjin had a go yesterday with the Pleiades; but that wouldn't be the right vantage point.

So, any ideas here would be appreciated - trying to find a science reason for an expedition.

I've spent 2 hrs dead due to a medical procedure, that was more fun than a day out in Basingstoke. ;)

Bill

More interesting too :D
