UAs, Barnacles & More Thread 6 - The Canonn

I think the "scanning of things that aren't planetary bodies" has a good chance of being worked into UA behavior. In the same way that scanning a nav beacon might reveal system data and points of interest, it's not a big stretch of the imagination that scanning a UA could reveal a POI, barnacle locations, or even a hidden planet half a lightyear away!

Scanning nav beacons probably won't be possible in unpopulated space with regards to barnacles but they would be a much more immersive way of maybe finding distress calls from crashed ships in systems rather than checking the wanted ads in Galnet.

What I meant was that, with this new feature, we might be able to scan the UA the same way we would scan a Nav Beacon. Total speculation, but something to watch for while doing Science after the update.

Just to make sure (again I admit I haven't checked the thread in detail, sorry), is the barnacle location at -1,61 ; -163,54 already noted? I couldn't find it in the spreadsheet, but I have a feeling I have no idea how it is supposed to work and how to find things there, not to mention add them.

with 2.1 u can tell fdev have become a bit distracted on the barnacle front, still no CGs for stations that have been UA shutdown yet. Not enough automation of local community goals and tie in with other things in the galaxy

Appreciate it if some experienced barnacle hunters could help me out with some questions:

  • I know they occur in the yellow canyons (as seen from altitude), but has anyone ever found one in canyons with other colours (red, blue or white floors?).
  • Do they ever occur *as* blue 'point of interest' dots (not just accidentally alongside one).

If I can focus exclusively on yellow canyons and safely ignore POIs full of tea that will save me a lot of time. Thanks.

You can avoid the blue POIs.
At least until something has been changed by FD in the meantime.

About canyons with other colors, it usually depends on the nearest Star's Color.
Until now, even the Barnacles found in Systems with blue stars, are so far from the main star that the canyons are not affected by the star's color.
More in general, Barnacles are being found in mineral deposits both inside and outside big craters: these mineral deposits are identifiable by their different color to that of the planet's general ground.
The different color disappears the more you get close to them: that lets me think that this deposits are somehow more reflective from afar, given their mineral/metal abundance.

Rekah!

Calm down there my good man, and leave some room for other scribes and purveyors of thought! Lest we get lost in translation and aimlessly drift through the darkness between stars, forever lost! (And I've got a rotten hangover)

Thank you!

Well - all those posts should be moderated away anyway - posting more than twice in a row is enough to get all the posts deleted. Or perhaps merged.

@Patau82, @Goemon or @Yaffle? Could you please sort out @Rekah's posts there on the previous page? Although they're quite fun - they're really not helpful.
