Good evening Michael.

Everyone has a question I know but all I want to know is whether we can access the permit locked areas or not.
I don't want any more than a yes or no.
I feel incredibly frustrated as I don't know if I'm wasting hours and hours when I could be working power play and building my rep.

There isn't any way to access the region permit zones at the moment.

Michael

Supercruise is the lower end of the frame shift spectrum, trying to supercruise a massive object at such low speeds is beyond the current technology.

Michael

Oops, puts my/our explanation of why it took a while for the Canonn institute to get to COL 285 SECTOR IX-T D3-43 from Thompson Dock into a cocked hat then...

I'll offer myself up to the lore-gods for punishment. :D

A warning to people who'd jettison UA-s in or near Merope: pirates still spawn there, and they might try to nab your artefact. I was in Merope, looking for something in polar orbit around the star, and at 10k ls out I dropped down from supercruise to check if the artefact still points at the star. So I jettisoned it, moved a bit closer and used the debug camera to see where exactly it was pointing. I was fiddling around a bit, and then suddenly something blocked out the view. I immediately switched back from the debug camera, to see a Federal Assault Ship right where the artefact was. A message from the ship's pilot, who was Deadly, had no faction affiliation and was called "Smed": "Your cargo now belongs to me."
I've just been pirated!
The guy turned to leave and charged his FSD, but as I was in a combat-explorer Clipper, I tried to get my cargo back from him. Unfortunately, the fight didn't turn out as I expected, and I ended up fleeing with 27% hull left.

So yeah, if you're carrying unknown artefacts near the bubble, be mindful of your surroundings.

Also, a question to Michael Brookes: can you tell us if there's anything special that can be found in Merope, apart from the barnacles?

Last weekend (Sunday) i made the observation that twice while checking the California barnacles I stumbled on a scrashed nav beacon close by. Have you made that observation?. Strange thing is, for one of them I was flying and didn't see the circle for the beacon (maybe my tinfoil hat failed to function properly), the other I drove towards it and bumped into 2 remains of crashed ships ( but not intact crashed ships) and twice 5 escape pods. When I arrived on site I was driving so no blue circles. I posted the Picts on this thread for confirmation.

Hey Michael,

I manage a sheet on barnacle criteria.... are we looking too deep?

We've narrowed down candidates using things like surface temp, planet composition and gravity...

Does any of this information have any place in the whole UA/Barnacle/Probe mystery?

Further theories are being looked into like theories on binaries and star types and even proximity of sites to one another.

Is our research in vain?

It's alright if it is.

Thanks for your answer. A follow-up question then: do we have to wait till they're unlocked or can we trigger the unlocking of these areas?

can I ask how does the following relate to your theory:
- mysterious yellow crates on the crash sites, you think they were collecting MA?
- barnacles now seem to have a cycle, or maybe they are "hatching" now. how would the "thargoids" know which ones were shot and which ones not?

- I do think they were collecting MAs indeed. The security now present in some places makes sure these Barnacles can only be harvested by some people.
- Just like the UAs knew when to place themselves in a shell and point to Merope.

He is incorrect. You can supercruise into them. The game doesn't handle that correctly at all though. Someone Supercruised to Polaris.

Yeah I get that but he has answered a long debated question.
Is the area locked for future updates / developments or have we just not figured it out yet.
My conclusion is we have learned all we can about barnacles and u.a's.
The only thing left is try and find more u.a's and barnacles.

But until this area is unlocked I don't think there will be many real advances in this story arc.

I will now however look for Jaques Station.
Search Orion and cetus
Look at other nebula to see if barnies are elsewhere too.

End of a chapter, start of the story.

Hello eveyone,

I am currently travelling in a totally different direction than The Pleiades/California/Barnards loop, and I plan to stop by a few small nebulae on my travels.

Now, I plan to do a quick scan for Barnacles while I'm there.... However, I have absolutely no idea what conditions I am looking for.

Please can someone give me a quick list of the known conditions where they are found, ie:
  • Star types
  • Planet types/composition
  • Approximate Min/max distance in ls from star
  • Any other info that I have missed.

Many thanks

unknown probe is listed as illegal in some spaces, and also UAs are listed. we can assume they are different things, not just different names.
It's listed as Prohibited at EVERY station that I've seen. Even Anarchy ones.

You are incorrect. You can supercruise in the game to the location where the system would be, but you're still in the instance of the system you came from.
MB said it earlier on. There is currently no way to get into a permit system without the necessary permit.

On the first page you will find a link to a file. In this file you will have information on size, composition, temperature. In that first page you will also find information on probable locations ( you will do a lot of traveling on the planet). To help you look at the ground, pitch 40 degrees and use your ventral thrusters and boost for speed. Fly at 1000 metres so it is a bit easier to see them.

unknown probes aren't the same as unknown artefacts.

Michael

what did i say guys?! I said that! Nobody fracking listened!!! Somebody pick up the phone because i ****ing called it!

I remember typing up multiple posts saying the UA and the UP are differant but people just passed it off. Like. CMON PEOPLE you dont ignore a guy who got a conda in under 2 weeks of total game time!
