UI Panels, disappear when I try to read them.

I just started playing ED and I just got my rift.

When I look left and right the UI Panels pop open, but they are tricky to read. When I try to lean in to view them better they promptly disappear. Is there a way to lock them open?

Just as a test, you could try opening them with the 1,2,or3 and see if they stay open when you look. I know, you are using the Rift, but just as a test.

Yeah that's a bug most of us have. The look detection can be a bit buggy. In addition to the side panels the commodities market also has this weird spot where it sudenly greys out for a bit until you either stare back to the middle or further left. With a little practice you'll learn which angles are more prone to cause this and it wil happen less frequently. Lets hope the bug is going to be fixed in one of the next patches...

I'm 'assuming' it's been ticketed? Or perhaps more of us VR users should lodge this so it does get noticed.

I also noticed this but it seems to me it depends on the ship model. In the market window it is the com panel catching focus when you look at it.

I've ticketed the "looking into side panels" thing. Not done the commodities market thing - but I have experienced that too (or rather the station services screen).

Sorry to put a dampner on this topic, but how is this a game issue?

If the problem occurs on a product that has nothing to do with the company creating the game, then my first place of contact is those who created the product.
Have you actually contacted the company and explained the problem, as it isn't the responsibility for the game designers to solve buggy third party equipment that they are not responsible for.

I use TrakIR and this exact same issue occurs if I have not set it up correctly within Trackir software. When i do set it up correctly i get no issues with the side panels, proves it isn't a game issue if other third party products work fine.

Just looking at rift forums they do have many issues with their product, sign up and report yours.

Of course FD have some responsibility for this - they are using the OR API to interface with the rift, therefore they can alter it's sensitivity directly.

Ticketed.

"Dear Oculus,
When I look at the top left of the commodities screen in Elite:Dangerous, the menu grays out. Please fix this."
Yes, I'm sure that will get results.

It seems obvious that the hot-spots for opening the panels are a little off and need adjusting. There was no issue with the commodity screen in beta2. It should be a pretty simple fix. I don't expect it to be a priority for Frontier though as it doesn't break the game and only affects oculus users. It just makes the interface a little finicky. At least if we ticket it they can address it in future releases.

Before Starport menu and cockpit where 2 different thing, now they put them together and it's a total mess.
The Menu grays out because it's going in the cockpit UI zone.

Fyrd, one can only hope that you're trolling. Yes, I will believe that you are trolling as I do not believe, in spite of everything, that someone that is apart of the homo sapien species cannot be that nonsensical.

As for this bug, it's due to the "hitbox" around the UI panels.

What disturbs me most about this game, however, is the fact that my arms are welded into the pilot chair :(

I suppose that if you are in a game, this door you're at is supposed to open, but it only opens when you're 5 feet away from it, then shuts when you try to go through, that it is an issue with the keyboard, mouse, or gamepad?

The detection boxes just need tweaking. it's fine when you are reading the tops of the menus, but most people tilt their head down as they read down and therefore the huds close when you are only half way down the menu.
I've gotten used to it so i read down using my eyes more then my head.
But considering there is plently of "dead space" below the hud's. They should have room to extend the detection boxes down at least

Yeah and also add some depth to the detection area as well so I can lean in a bit more as well.

It's certainly a polish issue as opposed to hard bug, but it needs to be fixed for the rift to be really workable. It would also be nice if the UI panel toggle buttons could cause it to stick open while you were looking at them.

I've been able to get "closer" to the side panels by keeping my head looking mostly forward. I think that it keeps my Rift in better view of the tracking camera

It seems that whenever you're reading the last line of text that's when it animates and goes away. I would like it if they made it so when you looked down while glancing at the panels it didn't go away. Since it doesn't really obscure the view of the floor just leave it on. As of now I do what others do and lean way back and re-center it helps the hit detection and then I'm closer and can read the text better. Ticketed.
