Ultimate DW2 Trolling

So here's the evil plan:

I have way too much time on my hands (isn't that everyone on these boards?). I'm going to trail the DW2 expedition, at a yet undetermined rate, lagging just behind them. And throughout, frequently sell data to get the credit. Ideally you could go about halfway without selling, then turn around and sell it and rob peeps of 50% of their discoveries. BUT, it's infinitely more complex, and I know there are bases like the Road to Colonia etc..so 50% is too high.

However, I'll utilize RRC waypoints and still sell a good chunk before people can get back or dock somewhere.

Thoughts?

Except that waypoints are already in the system. Basically you'd be doing what everybody will - selling their data at some point. Troll away! ;)

People are going to sell throughout. If you tag behind, you'll be too late. At least until the new station in the Core.

After the Core it'll be doable, but there's so many undiscovered systems there you'll struggle to tag systems which others are tagging. Very much russian roulette.

Around each waypoint you're more likely to hit "gold", but those places are probably comprehensively scanned already so finding anything untagged near them (which again, someone else needs to scan in order for you to "rob" them) won't be so easy.

But best of luck :)

Really? You want to "rob" few thousand people of their discoveries in galaxy so big that players uncovered only smal amount of it until now? That's your plan?

I'm not sure many of them even care about profits or having their name plastered on some planets.

But if that rocks your boat then knock yourself out.

Have fun with that.
Me, I'm just going to travel farther, longer, and harder than these guys.

Circumnavigating the galaxy, because I can.

OP, unless you should magically be able to scan more than thousands of people each day, chances are your efforts will be completely unnoticed by just about everyone.

I think you might be better off hitting a few high value spots then sprinting ahead, turning the good stuff in, then ganking the explorers before they get to turn in at waypoints. This way, you get the tags, the cash, and the salt for taking "everything from them" and "giving them nothing" as Leonidas would say.

You could then take a but more time on the return trip, or simply dog them the whole way.

I am very curious to see if FDEV restores the Fleetcom data for in PG ganks. Could lead to some interesting discussions about tags.

Eh... sure. Go ahead.

Become an explorer to gank the explorers... gotcha.

Don't worry. There's plenty of systems to go around. There are 400 billion systems in ED, and only 30+ million tagged so far. That's 0.008% only. It's estimated to take 44,000 years for us current players, with current speed, to map the whole galaxy. There's probably many millions between the bubble and BP, so he can try get them all. If he can... well, then he's a better explorer than all of us. :D

Less effort : don't even bother. There will be people anyway who think the fact they scanned something means they "deserve" first discovery, so you can laugh at them either way. As others have pointed out, all you are doing is taking part in the expedition, just in a sadder, lonlier way.

The OP also makes one other thing clear: you really have no idea how many systems there are out there :)

You're going to tag along and attempt to tag systems that have already been tagged for years along the route? [wacko]

Well, it'll keep him busy at least. :)

@OP: while "stealing" your discoveries, dont forget to post them on EDDB (you can use automated tools like EDDiscovery) so you can "steal" EDSM entries too :) Oh and dont forget the metallicity survey.

Getting my name on things stopped being 'a thing' a long time ago. I used to keep a excel sheet with all the systems I had gotten 100% first discovered on, noting if they had an ELW, WW, AW, Neutron star etc. But after the first 10 ELW it seems a bit pointless.

I might still note places of real interest or things that a very rare, but just tagging a moon? Whatever.

As others have pointed out, your plan will be pretty pointless until the far side of Colonia where the outposts stop.

I've lost count of the number of systems with my name on them, and I don't even do all that much exploring. Methinks you may want to try something else, if your intention is to be a salt miner...

What a dumb plan!
