General / Off-Topic Ulysses 31 Appreciation Society

Ulysses 31 is one of my favorite cartoons when I was a child next to Transformers & Mask I still remember when Philip Scofield sung the open theme song with Gorden the Gopher on Children's BBC :)

i was and remain a transformers fan, i own an original oppy prime AND a powermaster prime

Bit before my time, Thundercats was always my favourite 80's cartoon. Shame they only did one series of Dungeons and Dragons, definitely one for the remake treatment... ;)

Ulysses, Ulysses, flying through all the galaxies, in search of other, something I can't remember.... Ulysseeeeees

I'm still traumatised from finding out his real name was Odysseus and because of this he's always Ulysses in my mind...

Yeah, Ulysses, He-Man, Thundercats, MASK (crusaders...), Transformers, Go-Bots (Go Botty!), Eighty Days around the World... we were truly spoiled (Cities of GOLD!) in the eighties.

I loved Ulysses, but it was no Dungeons & Dragons :)

Michael

No way, Ulysses 31 kicked dungeons and dragon's butt. :) Space, laser sword/shield, cool spaceships, ancient Greek culture and a cute alien girl... What's not to like?

Cheers,

Drew.

Ah you almost had me. Achilles himself would scarcely have had the strength to resist a youtube marathon after watching that first link. Such cool music and ships. I wonder if we'll see a space station shaped like an ancient greek helmet in E: D. :D

I'm off to see if there is a DVD release.

Can't remember how it finished though. Didn't it have a really annoying unicorn in it?

Yes they got home. Eventually they fought the one horned guy in the dragons graveyard where the wizard powers were at full. Turns out he was the son of the midget Dungeon Master.

A friend and I did a start-to-finish marathon. By the half way through we wanted to leave the robot behind and by the end of it we just wanted the kids to die too. They were sooo annoying.

OT: Have you seen the new ThunderCats? The new Cheterah looks like a chav!

Battle of the Planets was ok.. It was the dodgy translations I liked...

"Defending us from alien attack from galaxies beyond space..."

Huh? ;)

Cheers,

Drew.

They never actually made the final D&D episode, Requiem - Though the script exists out there on the interwebs.

Ulysses 31 was a staple morning program. I remember the days when you could search for Nono and you would get a page full of robots and not one hair removal product...

But for my money, you couldn't beat Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors.

Love Ulysses :)

The best thing about it (as me and the missus binged on it back to back over a couple of days lol) was the phrases he'd come out with.

Instead of "Oh my God!" he'd say something like...

By Jupiters Moons!

By the rings of Saturn!

By the... well I can't remember any of them, but he used a different one nearly every time. I originally wanted to actually go through the whole series and write them all down it amused me so much. Alas, I found something more constructive to do with my life :D

But yeah, great show.

And not wanting to spin the thread, but other greats...

Cities of Gold
Jason and the Monster Minds (Mines?)
Not cartoons, but loved Starfleet and Terrorhawks too!

Speaking of Starfleet... check out Brian Mays floating head singing the theme song!!!

STARFLEET... STARFLEET STARFLEEEEEEEET
