unable to launch the game no matter what i do

when i try to launch the game through steam i am asked to update, it is up to date

if i try to launch via the file location launcher i am prompted to sign into a frontier account
i have made a account and linked to steam account and am told i need to purchase ED.

redownloading the game has no change
steam support has been no help and this forum is the only frontier support i can find to ask questions
this issue has been happening for months
i Just want to play the game again, any assistance would be great

yo do you still have this issue?

I am having the same problem, got a ticket with both Steam and Frontier open. All the tricks people on google/steam say to do will not work. Screenshot 2022-05-08 190542.pngScreenshot 2022-05-08 183529.pngScreenshot 2022-05-08 1553444.png

Have you tried the link in post #3?
I have linked, unlinked, re-linked my steam account probably close to 10 times with no luck. and the "login with steam" button no longer exists on the launcher, so if you launch it and try to log in you get the above message. It has to be launched through steam, but you get that error message. its .... beyond aggravating.

my suggestion if you are brand new to the game try launching horizons first (select in launcher)
if no go try the log of machine function in the launcher options menu and retry if it sends a new code via e mail leave email open when coping over the code

As you can see even if you launch the EDLaunch.exe file from the main directory you can not do anything with it. There is no option to log in through steam, no check for update, and no base-game launch option, nothing that i can do. Trying to log in will just give the error showed earlier as i purchased through steam not Frontier.

Even if I manually launch Oddysey or Horizons it wont let me progress after compiling shaders because im not logged in, i can't get get to the games main menu.

That is because since 2019 Elite on Steam is a "NO-CD Key" version - purchases on Steam prior to that date can be run without Steam (I have one or two like that).

BTW - have you raised a "support request" rather than raising a problem on the "issue tracker" (which is pants)? - here is a quick link to the submit a request page (raise support ticket):

This "please purchase" issue comes up frequently, so often that F D produced a video about it (it is linked in their support page linked in post #3 above) but here it is anyway in case it is of help (it isn't very good):

yeah, just actually heard back about exactly the time you replied oddly enough. Turns out when i bought the base game years ago and only played for like 30 hours over a month i had made and registered the cd-key to a frontier account to an email address I dont use and havent in quite a while.

so apparently thats the problem for me, I hadn't thought that'd be the case since I can link this account to my steam account which usually you can't if its already linked so I was trying everything else to solve it. 🤦

Frontier support are super-helpful so I hope you get up and running before too long.

yeah heres hoping! was super bummed because I finally found a decent stick/thruster (Thrustmaster Hotas One) on Amazon for a good price and was like "I could finally get into Elite, maybe even Star Citizen with that!" and then, I couldn't play lol
