General Undeploy Odyssee, Re-Launch it in Autumn

Dear FD Dev team,

Odysee is a big step, a necessary, we know. It has to happen to move the game to a more future proof state and further develop it. Though, unless you guys are able to make Odysee playable and stable within a week or two, just be consequent and prevent further damage from Elite Dangerous. Revert to Horizons, let people play at least and stay with Elite. With the current state of the game, it would be very generous to even call it a beta. I don't mean this in a flippant way, I'm simply worried about the community (aka the customer base) and the damage that this does to it. The current state of the game basically means that the Elite Dangerous universe is shut until further notice. Back to 2013, no Elite here ... move along. That is not good as this game lives of the vibrant community that fills the universe with life and your balance sheet with revenue.

This might be drastic but it might be just the right step: a) to keep the game, the universe and the community alive and b) to take pressure off the development team so that you can take a step back, breathe and get to it. I fear otherwise there will be lasting damage done to Elite and its community that will be hard to recover from which means that our beloved space game is in danger ending at some time.

What do you guys think?

Kind Regards,
CMDR Morr

You can stop playing Odyssey any time you want. I want to play it, it’s fun.
Glad you are enjoying it. I just hope they put off merging until they have fixed it up. Especially the UI. At this point, EDO has gone from maybe, to pretty much hell no to me without major fixes.
Right now, I just want to be able to play Horizons. Come fall with the expected merge, I will still want to play Horizons without the downgraded UI, or extra bugs. I can live without the new terrain features and graphical updates if I get to keep the pre Odyssey UI and game functionality.

Horizons on PC is now a deprecated branch. They got it to run well, but it wasn’t easy to expand. They could leave it as, but it wouldn’t get new features.

No I'm fine, if you want to play Horizon's until Odyssey is stable that's fine, it's still there, but leave Odyssey there while they fix it up properly, at least they have people who can test and report on errors. They take it down and relaunch it in August who knows what bugs that are there now will still exist....ok I worded that badly but you know what I mean!

They can just be honest about it and call it open access/beta/whatever moniker you want to give it. I play plenty such games--probably most of what I play anymore. I appreciate the other games/developers for being up front about it.

Wish I could, Odyssey crashed when I tried to leave an SRV, won't reload without CTD, and now I can't go back to Horizons, it crashes too... so, no, we can't go back. Odyssey is so bad its ruined Horizons too.

No.

P. S. The launch of Horizons was no better and its still here.

The issue is that launch of Odyssey actually broke Horizons quite badly in some ways, most acutely by introducing a bunch of planetfall stations that you can't actually go to, while currently you're being given missions (even trivial data-delivery missions) that send you to these places and you simply cannot fulfill, and unlike with Horizons specific missions that actually warn you you need to do a surface landing for them, you don't actually get to distinguish them from those, so you never known in advance if you're getting a mission target you can actually complete.

Frontier should be scrambling to fix Horizons, preferably by making sure all the new planetfall stations are actually accessible in Horizons too (so you aren't suddenly competing in a marketplace with some of the destinations inaccessible arbitrarily). I agree that after that, it's valid for Horizons to be accessible as the "fallback", but as of right now Odyssey is breaking the game even for people who don't own it.

Thank you all for your contribution to this discussion point. I'm glad that some can enjoy it at least.

Let's hope FD can get it to a playable state soon. I certainly trust they do all they can.

I don't think that undeploying Odyssey would make any sense.
Whilst I believe that deploying in its current state was bad form (and the comsumers' response has been quite clear), Horizons is still around, so those who want to ignore Odyssey can do it (with a few additional difficulties, admittedly), and at the same time there is a great opportunity for those who are playing Odyssey to highlight problems that would be totally missed if the game weren't live.
My point is: since the damage is already done (released in this state), there is no point in taking steps back when through collaboration things could move forward.

I'm not happy to have paid for a game that is nowhere near completion, but I want it to succeed, and if life gives me lemons, I make lemonade.

Why can't you just go play horizons? I waited for odyssey and was able start playing even from alpha. That post ed me off. Where is dislike button? Everything we need is a warning that Odyssey is early-access. And that also helping to discover more bugs. Just call it beta and do no vipe after it. Much games are 5 years+ old and still beta. Or if you want to reverse to horizons go refund it and enjoy your awful-graphics horizons. Let everyone choose for themselves. Many players refunded Odyssey to go back in future. But i want to stay. I want to wach it improves patch after patch and be happy because of every 5 extra fps. DON'T BE SO SELFISH! Or refund moral damage for everyone who would suffer like me because of that insane rollback. Ready? No? So, please, shut up and deside for yourself. Everyone has a choice go back to cave or not. And no one have a right to drag others inside it. LONG LIVE THE PROGRESS!!! O7
P.S. Also devs can go generous and give those who choose to stay a refund) We will be happy to get another skin for gun or something pleasant trifle like that)

That was not my point. I was indeed worried about what impact this has on the community and the success of the brand.

I personally will stay with my purchase and log in from time to time to see if I can stay in the game for longer than 2 minutes. I'll have to be patient as playing Horizons just feels wrong for me, like having half the universe that is supposed to be out there. But that's me.

Thank you for your perspective, though! Much appreciated.

Label it as a Beta. Sell if for $20. Give all owners of Odyssey $40 in free Arx. Listen to our suggestions. Maybe even implement some of them. Re-release if when it is ready. Sell it for the regular price of $40 on release.

Never gonna happen, but I can dream can't I :D
