Unexpected Fleet Carrier Benefits - What are Yours?

Whilst the benefits of a fleet carrier to me as a trader are fairly obvious, one of the unexpected benefits I found was shortly after I had purchased my carrier in Diso. I had a complete collection of all player owned ships (except fighters) in Shinrarta Dezhra and Orang and since I now had a fleet carrier, what better thing to do than to store my fleet on it? Now I could have just jumped to those systems and transferred the ships over but I chose not to. Instead I choose to fly the all from their current location to the carrier.

In the process I upgraded each on, A rated FSD & field scoop, D rated life support & sensors, and so on and where I could I also did some engineering on the FSD.

Then I flew the ship to the carrier, transferred the small taxi-ship back to the carrier and went back for the next.

I had forgotten just how much fun it is to fly some of these ships. Well, all of them actually but some more than others. So the unexpected benefit was to fly all the ship in my collection again, some of them years after having bought them.

I also found that I had a 'spare' T9 out in the black somewhere that I'd forgotten about. Must have been there unused for nearly three years. Sold it of course.

Yeah am back to small ships, huge amount of fun, big ships for carrier trading. Although as far as trading, I've found it is better to head to the smaller outpost ports for loading up, I put in a decent buy price, someone has loaded over 4000 tonnes since I arrived this morning.

Surprised you didn't use that T9 as a module storage barge, or full cargo racks to move fuel around the carrier.

I would have done except that I have 39 ships in the fleet already!

I may give the outposts a try again.

I made 200m cr last night doing pirate missions (in Open ftw) in a Vulture. I had my carrier parked near the CNB so a quick repair was quite easy.

The biggest benefit I’ve found is that it’s actually making me explore. Rather than bouncing through systems on my way to somewhere I’m using smaller ships to thoroughly check out systems whilst my Carrier moves.

I‘m flying out to any body with icy rings in the hope of finding a double or triple tritium hotspot ( two poor doubles so far.) I experienced my first electrical storm last night having used the codex to find one and jumped into my Eagle to experience it in a small ship rather than do it all in one ship. High G planets are a laugh with my heavily armoured Cobra too.

It’s also surprisingly welcoming to dock at my familiar Carrier after a few days of exploring an area, maybe 3-5lys at a time.

I understand the ‘millstone’ thinking around Carriers for exploring but that slowing down can actually by very liberating. Once you‘re beyond the Bubble‘s explored zone there’s little reason to rush....and when I decided I’d made a mistake in not having any supercruise modules I jumped into my light year munching Conda and bought some before heading back and transferring them.

I recalled every single ship I have from around the Bubble, along with every single module I had stored in dozens of lockers across inhabited Space. They're all now stored in the Bonaventure.
It's now a breeze to outfit my ships; statements like "That G5 Multigun is WHERE?!" is a thing of the past.
;)

Before carriers, I thought ship launched shuttles were a good idea. But now, I see its much more fun to park the carrier next to an outpost and trade using a python or whatever. So my whole fleet is like a carrier launched shuttle, so to speak.

The benefit to me is I can move around the galaxy without spending hours stuck at the PC. Working from home, every 30 minutes I can set another waypoint and leave the game and get back to work. Same today, in the garden all day with the odd visit to the PC to set another jump. Since buying the FC I've gone from the bubble to Sag A to Colonia and halfway to Beagle Point with minimum time spent.
I need to mine to make it to BP which will be a nice distraction.

An excellent new source for screenshots.
