unfair npc's

yes Colonia is a bit of a hugh step, very long way to go and not much of any safety zones on the way. it is a bit daunting but there are hundreds of things I could/should do before going I may not get there for months,as is Ive been trying to get as many engineers unlocked and it takes so much time(to all those who helped I have mostly figured out the mining thing thanks to all your help and have even cashed in about 70 void opals, Im not sure who said to let every ship in the area scan you before mining, but that trick works a few minutes after being scaned they all leave😁) I realy want to get out there so Im picking a day to leave regardless of what I have or hevent done yet. I figure I can always come back and when I do get back Ill be that much better. If I get creamed on way out I will take what I can learn from it and try again will post when I leave for anyone who is interested

Trip to Colonia is easy and relatively safe. Safest is to follow Colonia connection highway, and stop at waystations there.

Provided you have unlocked 4 'easy' bubble engineers to L4 and have the invites, unlocking the Colonia engineers is easy(ish) and they are all very close to each other :)
(Don't listen to Mel Brandon if he demands The Nameless bounties, any will do, and you wouldn't be upsetting the folk supporting The Nameless along the way)

Bubble Engineers needed at L4 for invites: Liz Ryder, Todd 'The Blaster' McQuinn, The Dweller, Elvira Martuuk.

If you have not traded in 5 Black Markets to open The Dweller, just ask and you can pirate one of my ships for 5 food cartridges (making then stolen) to sell 1 of each in a Black Market, getting the requirement.

Have fun 👍

thank you that is one of the coolest things I have ever been offered, just the whole idea is way more then I ever expected. I would take you up on it but I have the Dweller to level 4

is there a better place then eddb to get sell prices for void opals and things? i know its a huge effort to try to make a web sight like eddb and its way cool they do it but im tired of jumping 100 + LY to find that insted of 600,000 or so credits that i expected they sell for 65,000 or am i just using the sight wrong? i try to match price with a high demand when i pick a station and i use the sell option selection including planetary

EDDB updates when a commander with the app to update it arrives at a station.

Unfortunately, they may be there just to sell materials, or other players could come after who do not update pricing, or players from consoles (who can't use the EDDB addons) could also go there.

Your best bet for reliable information is to find a system that has the kind of economy that buys the commodity (in this case, Void Opals), you can see these system types if you look at the commodity's description in-game for who consumes it. If you want a system that has demand remaining, don't use EDDB - almost everyone does, so the high-price systems will be the target for many players.

i just went to a place eddb listed void opals selling for 507,000 credit and go to sell they are only paying 4,074 credits thats a major difference

thank you very much. I was unaware of how eddb worked, I knew it was a major effort to keep a sight like that going and am impressed any one would take the effort, by no way am i putting them down. It has been a large help in finding lots of differtent info for me. now that I understand how it works i will use it for less specific info. Also thanks for the advice on how to find the places to sell at. The more I get into this community the more I hope this is what the future becomes, the people like yourself are great people who are the reason i kept playing. In todays world the whole concept of a community has seemed to fade away, at least in the USA anyways it was not like that before and its so cool to see that there are still people who have the desire to help others and to build a better place for everyone thank you it makes a difference in not just the game but in my life as a whole

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings. After the last patch Void Opal (and all other high-value minerals) pricing is tied to demand. Not just the system state but the demand at the station you are selling to. So If you pull in with 128 tons of VO and the station has no demand you're getting squat for money. Low Temp Diamonds seem to be holding up better but they are still selling for way less. Most markets are likely saturated now and you'd have to hunt for a good price. Wish I could tell you to believe the in-game market tools in GalMap or the Commodities menu but they are also badly out of date from what I am experiencing.

VO is not the automatic money dispenser anymore and it's not easy to find markets paying top dollar on any of the high end minerals but I will say that finding Painite, Alexandrite, Monozite, and Serendibite pricing in 6 figures is still somewhat easy even at 0 demand so you can still make 20 to 30 million without a ton of searching. Industrial systems tend to pay best on those so far. Low Temp Diamonds are most valuable right now on average as far as I can tell.

Sales prices have become quite a bit more complicated with the last patch, and even those people who try to determine how the best prices are obtained are currently struggling to get behind this updated scheme. What I know right now:
  • sales prices are much more strongly influenced by demand, and possibly by the amount you have in your cargo hold (I haven't personally observed the latter, but it's a very persistent suggestion)
  • only specific station economies may have a demand for Void Opals (I remember tourism and refinery, there also was a third)
  • specific faction states will drive up the price for rare minerals, for VOs, these are Investment, Civil Liberty and Pirate Attack (and these have to be states of the faction owning the station)

So the best you can do right now is to check EDDB on the stations tab. You can only select one Economy, but you can select multiple faction states. Since the states can switch from one cycle to the next, you'll need data that is as recent as possible. Best candidate in the Bubble would be two stations in Xuanebuth with data less than a day old. If I then check Shoujing Oasis, it seems that other people had a similar idea: VO demand is only 7 tons, and despite the multipliers, the indicated price is a measley 280k/ton. Other core materials, especially LTDs, with a much higher demand show much better prices.

--THANKS it seem that just as things always change in the real world so do they in E D that does make it more true to life and just like real life it usualy sucks. thanks again

thank you I am leaving for Colonia tonight got a couple hours before my departure time to get as much reserve credits as I can and this will help max out my effort. You guys are the best looling forward to finaly meeting up with you. I figure if I have a few buy backs for my ship saved up I should make it just fine. Got 3 of the 4 engineers just missing Liz Rider,so hope she is not to lmportant for unlocking Colonia Engineers. Will post again when I start out

Liz Ryder unlock Etienne (call me Hannibal) Dorne - a key engineer if you do not already have PP & Distro engineering pinned. As Liz is 'easy' enough to unlock just by doing a few jobs for Eurybia Blue Mafia and buying a few landmines, unlocking her and engineering 'stuff' up to L4 should be considered before departing.

At least that way you'll be able to enjoy all of the engineers in Colonia.

Have a great journey 👍

The trip out is a long one indeed, so make sure you have a podcast or something to watch. It's 22,000ly, so be prepared for that.

I've done the (one way) trip so often recently that the NH has laid aside a private lane for me 🤭 The bit that feel longest is actually getting out of the bubble. The NH itself romps along, even in a 30LY jump Corvette...

Jest aside, it is a long trip, fly safe :)

Watched the Witcher while I was chugging out toward there on my alt account. Was flying my little Viper IV, but ohhhh boy. Did I get tired of jumping after a while.

This is just a thought, how do the Devs think they are balancing the game by nerfing all the percsthat were there for the old players? it just makes it harder for the new players to get to where they can get to a balance point with those who have been playing for a long time. Puting it planely the new guys have to spend more tme getting there butts kicked and trying to keep up with the rebuys it takes them so long to get to a point they can start to buy better ships and upgrades that the frustration i was going through when i started is just going to be greater for new players, starting out is already hard and can get very frustrating why dont they leave somethings that accually help new players catch up alone? it just doesnt make sence to make it harder for new players to make the large amounts of credits it takes to get better ships and equipment. This new update has destroyed my plans on getting an Andaconda or other large ship like the Corvette getting the credits for buying and upgrades then maintaining a large ship is not even an option for new players and the old players now will find the maintenace costs require to much farming to be worth owning the large ships, and i was looking forward to piloting a big bad Anny

Real grind are engineers and finding activities that improve your piloting skill, as experianced player i have enaugh harmless condas and cutters dying under 30sec's or noobs in engineered ship cloging against ship 2 tier lower, as this is direct result of too fast credits progression.

Mining is still profitable, they've just brought things down to a more sensible level.

Why do I say sensible? Reason being that there's now other avenues to explore and mining is not the way of making credits. As an example, some commodities are now selling at profits of 8500 per ton. New BGS states mean there's credits to be made delivering stuff to systems with demand for industrial bits, water and other stuff we previously wouldn't bother with. Add to that 180t palladium delivery missions still offers 10 million a go.

Or, come to Carcosa or Earth Expeditionary Fleet in Colonia and pick up a bunch of scan/power plant destruction missions for the anarchy faction. On a good day you can do 20 of those in less than an hour at an average of 1.5 million a mission. Credits are still there to he made, it's just different now that mining has been reigned in a little.

Before anyone says 'well it's ok for you because you benefitted from the gold rush". My total mining profits come in at 300 million. Not exactly the full a rated Anaconda.

All the different star systems are visual wonders each so I dont get bored traveling around and I'm always wondering whats in the next system. I just hope I dont get stuck with nowhere I can jump to for fuel my max jump range is 25 Ly equiptment but no cargo, putting in extra fuel tanks so can make more jumps before getting stuck. I am thinking about the FSD boost options in the galaxy map but have never used them and am a little nervous I will blow myself up.
