Unidentified signal sources are almost always empty for me.

Do this:

• TARGET the USS that has caught your fancy.
• Approach to within 1000 KM (you see the blue 'safe to disengage message'). DON'T OVERSHOOT.
• Make sure you have slowed down to a safe velocity (in the 'blue zone' in the left UI panel).
• Press whatever button takes you out of supercruise/frame shift drive.
• WAIT for up to 30 seconds.

Follow the above and you will experience < 1 in 20 empty USS scenarios.

Started doing the signals last night after maxing out my Anaconda ....as long as you follow these instructions there will always be something there ....even if its only a police ship scanning you.


I had a weird one where a Hauler was there and marked clean but a police Viper came out of nowhere and started attacking. I felt slightly uncomfortable witnessing police corruption and brutality in Elite

Well I´ve had time to get back into game.
Tried some USS, lock target, disengage when you have safe to do so message. The only change I made was to disengage at 100, instead of under 20. 100% hit rate, ok only tried 3 of them, but thats a huge improvement.
Thanks for the help all, lets hope it cures me of crashing into station aswell
