Idea: to unify style of radar marks, which have solid fill for NPCs and empty CMDRs, and make displaying format of nicknames the same too.

Expecting effects:
No more bright highlights on CMDRs for griefers and others, who want to make unnecessary PvP affaires, in supercruise and other places - more time to select targets gives to peacefull ship more chances to survive in hot systems.
Making troubles for suicide run lovers - no difference by marks and names between CMDR and NPC
Adds surprise effect for CMDRs in case of interdiction :)
And other interesting aspects...

I actually like the idea, but there's not enough player in the game (or the game is too big), we would miss every player we cross.
And I know how meeting players can be really nice, as NPCs are.. NPCs.

I'm separated between the two options.. x:

Best of both worlds as had been planned at some point: pilots federation transponder.

Default state, on. See hollows and be seen as a hollow the way it is now.

If you turn it off you will look like an NPC and see everyone else like an NPC.

Otherwise ... nope.

That is a good thing. But I can already hear the players whining about this

You will in any case via network traffic.

If they don't want to stand out against the sea of NPCs, that's fair if they also don't get to identify anyone else as a player without communication.

If there's a player in my system I want to know it.

How bout dis playa?

If this gets implemented I will simply use the bandwidth display or comms panel to assess if there are players in my instance. I think this is a terrible idea as on many occasions my decision making is heavily influenced on player activity.

Entering/Leaving starport - Oh that's a player, best not boost in/out like a lunatic in my Anaconda.
Hunting in Res - Oh that's a player, better not steal his kill
Docking at outpost - Oh that's a player. I'll quit to menu or take off before going AFK to get food/toilet etc

Just my thoughts, there's a decent case for it but for the most part I think it'll make the universe a more dangerous place than it already is and also a much more lonely place especially in PG's like Mobius and Fleetcomm where seeing a player is usually met with an "o7" on the comms panel rather than a "Warning, Interdicted" message.

I would be cool with this so long as it's a 2-way thing, meaning you can't see other people's states unless you yourself have your transponder set to "on." I also think that a direct scan of the ship should give you the information whether the transponder is on or not, and alter the radar icon accordingly.

More agreeable would be making it a purchasable module in the same way that shields are. The effectiveness of the module depending on the size of the module / ship and it's level E to D.

That and an interdiction disruptor, that you can activate and causes random failures in the interdictors ship temporarily...

Both should take up space as there should be some penalty fot avoiding game mechanics.

Note, neither should prevent interdictions, but both should make them more difficult (and be pricey).

I have an Alt account for guests and my kids.

There's a particular feeling when you hear a chirpy but nervous "Hollow squares, Dad!" When you're winged with your kid doing the Fed leg of the Old Worlds rares run, and you're a known Alliance pilot.

Leave it the same. It's pretty compelling.

If I HAD to change things (and I can see why some people would), make the sensors show all ships as solid icons. However, you will be able to tell if there are Players in the system you can look in the Comms panel.

It's not about that, it's about not showing immediately which dot that player is.

I'm all for a list of the instances cmdr on the side/com panel and same markers as NPC on the scanner for those who have turned off the transponder.

Voted no. I like being able to say hello to a cmdr even if it's just a passing "o7 cmdr", how often would people say hi if you couldn't differentiate between cmdrs and npcs. The galaxy would be just that little bit less sociable.
