Newcomer / Intro uninstall and move Elite to new drive ifo help

Hi All

Couldnt see where best to post this question so excuse if its in the wrong forum,

i am running out of room on my C Drive so i need to move Elite to a new Drive ( whole Steam library actually) - Please can anyone point out which files do i need to ensure i back up so i dont lose my current game play?

Thanks

I've found it easiest to uninstall it, then reinstall the client at the new location. All of your ships and in game assets are maintained by Frontier. You won't lose your loot.

The Steam versiojn of E:D lives in C:\Program Files (X86)\Steam\Steamapps\Common. You can move it by adding a Steam folder in the Steam client on another drive. I think you can move the installation through the Steam interface, but I've never done it. Once the new install location is set in Steam, you can go to the directory listed above, cut the folder via right-click (or Ctrl+x if you like keyboard shortcuts) and paste the folder into the Steamapps\Common directory on the new drive. When you restart Steam, it will validate that files and Bob's yer uncle.

You should also back up your bindings file in C:\Users\<Your Name Here>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings.

Just right click on the folder, send to > .zip file and move the zip elsewhere; you can unpack it back to the source folder if anything goes wrong.

Of course you could just uninstall it from Steam and then install the game direct to any location you choose (download installer from Frontier Store "My Downloadable Products") - thereafter play without invoking the Steam client.

You don't need Steam to be running to play the Steam version of the game - just run EDLaunch.exe from the Steamapps/Common/Elite Dangerous folder. I make a shortcut to the executable and run it that way.

I actually just moved the whole Frontier folder, adjusted the shortcut and done. Not using the steam version though.

Once you've created a new games folder for STEAM on your empty drive (I did this by downloading something small and free from the STEAM store) you can go to the games in your library then go to properties and somewhere in the tabs (I can't remember now and I'm at work) is an option to move the game file to...(your new STEAM folder).

It works perfectly, I had to do it with my ED copy when I downloaded the beta.

1. Elite can be copypasted as mentioned.

2. You move almost any game* on Steam, it's actually pretty simple. First, you add a new steam library folder on the new drive as per instructions here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7418-YUBN-8129
3. When you have new library folder available you can right click any game in your library, go to LOCAL FILES tab and then choose MOVE INSTALL FOLDER, then select the new library folder from the dropdown, click move and wait till it's done.

* exceptions could be games which use intrusive DRMs like starforce, but they are being encouraged to drop those by steam itself.

You might want to back up your bindings files if you have customized your controls, everything else is saved server side.
They live here
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

........... everything else is saved server side.
........

Ermmmm - not quite. Many of us have other customised settings see the directories under: %LOCALAPPDATA%\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\

FYI there are also your journals, they are in the %USERPROFILE%\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\

But yes, Bindings is the directory most "at risk" in an update.
