Uninstalling and re-installing Elite Dangerous

I'm considering wiping my PC which obviously means losing the game for a while. When I have re-installed, will I still have my Commander and all his stuff?

Player data is stored server side. The only things you should lose if you don't make a backup are your journals and settings.

Many thanks. I thought as much but being a luddite I thought I had better check!

Uninstalling the game should not lose your user settings. That said, if you are wiping your drive, or you just want to be safe, here are 2 key locations to back up:

Journal files:
c:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\

Bindings:
c:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings\

Where USERNAME is your Windows login name.

If you are having problems finding your AppData folder, just hit [WindowsKey]+[R] and enter:

%localappdata%

That should open up your AppData\Local folder.

Many Thanks for that information! I've bookmarked your post for future use! Reped [heart]

Some paths may vary if using Steam.
But don't ask me what they are. Lol

I need to do a full system wipe one day.
I just don't fancy redownloading everything on my pants internet. hopefully have fibre in a few months.
Hopefully. Lol

Just to add: unless you've enabled hidden folders (File Explorer -> view -> show/hide -> hidden items), you won't see the $localappdata folder.
