Hi FDev,

There was talk of this oooo many years ago. What is it's current status?

It seems silly that in the year 3000's we don't have a universal limpet controller.

This QoL tweak would make Elite Dangerous so much better and allow players to experience more of the ship gameplay it has to offer.

This would be very welcome! The rigmarole of swapping limpet controller loadouts before undertaking minor actions that should (IMO) be emergent, spontaneous and opportunistic -- like helping a disabled vessel or recon limpeting a megaship -- means I usually don't bother doing these when I see a chance.

But I can also understand why it hasn't been done yet.

The number of available slots for different types of limpet controllers are already factored into how ships are balanced against one another. Suddenly freeing up a number of slots in many builds is going to have an immediate knock-on effects elsewhere.

Obviously, anything is possible, but I think doing it the ideal way would involve a raft of other changes to restabilise the outfitting status quo. So not a straightforward tweak they'll slip into a minor update.

As a band-aid for now, I'd be happy if they just made it so every type of limpet controller was always available at every station with outfitting, so I can always pick up the necessary tools quickly and easily, as long as I'm in the bubble.
