Universe size of different versions of Elite?

A bit semi off-topic maybe, but I assume this is the best place to ask ;)
The size of the playable universe in Elite: Dangerous is supposedly 400+ billion systems. (400+... what's a few million systems?)

I played Elite on the C64 .. eh.. too many years ago.. but I have only vague memories of it. I found this though, claiming there are 2000 systems in the C64 version.

I also remember playing Frontier on my Amiga, but I have no idea how big that universe was.
Is there a list or table somewhere comparing the sizes of the different Elite versions on different formats?

Maybe the C64 version actually had 2048 too then and 2000 was just a conveniently rounded off number in the review?
In either case, it's more or less the same.

Anybody know about Elite II and III?
