lol, why? It's the community's fault. ;) If people want to spend their time dissecting sound files, why shouldn't they? I gave up and went exploring again, but that's just me... :D
Logic and gaming don't mix, especially on internet forums.

What if FD did not expect such as fuzz about the UA's, and they don't have anything in the game that has to do with it for the moment (despite what everybody wants it to be)
Lets just say they all started working super hard to get something new in the game so that the mystery quest can continue and is that the reason they are not releasing anything (yet)

Just a theory :)

What the hell did they expect to happen when Braben mentions there are non celestial objects out there to discover by explorers and then hints that UA is a clue to discover them.

I think there is something behind these, we just have to learn what makes them tick, in a understandable way.

I think it's a sign that the player base is extremely thirsty for actual content to be added to the game. Y'know, things like alien life, human avatars, actual genuine mysteries to be solved, etc.

I was just about to say the same thing: people are basically just hungry for content + who doesn't like a good mystery (except me, and only because I'm too lazy and hate disappointments)?

I remember that answer, of David during the discussion on the powerplay

I'm pretty sure there's nothing more to this, but where's the harm, it's been a lot of fun for everyone involved.

Maybe the answer to the puzzle was that the UA was Alien in origin.

There are still so many other clues hinted at in the official fiction of other places to explore, this might be just a confirmation there will be things out there to find

If this sort of things isn't out there, it should be. Possibilities like this enhance the hell out of exploring. I know there is a fine-line to be run to ensure that one thing (particularly something that runs counter to player interaction) becomes too profitable and everyone does only that thing, but there also needs to be a reason to do it. And I'd love to see ships built more specifically for it (outfitting more science equipment, things that might let you get closer to dangerous phenomenon, etc..)

Here's the thing - in a game like this, any discovery can only be made once before the entire player base finds out the answer through other means (ie out-of-game communication). It doesn't make sense for it to be easy at all, but it shouldn't be impossible either; there's something out there, in the midst of 400 billion stars. FD want us to find it, but it shouldn't be too easy because it's not one of those games.

It's pretty obvious that they've got an overall story to tell, but I do sort of wonder how much of the timeline of the story is determined by the player base; if we do crack it ahead of schedule, will they accelerate the story to account for it? It's almost certain that the opposite is true (if we prove ourselves to be properly inept to the point that they have to put a big flashing arrow next to the answer).

Anyway...they'd be mad to stifle this kind of community activity. Even if this is a wild goose chase (and the overwhelming evidence is to the contrary, in my opinion), they should be taking notice and actually making puzzles like this for the future. After all, not all of us enjoy the game for the same reasons. Not only that...the 37,000-odd views of my Unknown Artefact video on YouTube in 36 hours would tend to suggest that there are far more people interested in this than just the ones who're contributing to the threads on here.

I think the uncertainty comes about when we question whether "Have you tried listening to it?" WAS the big flashing neon sign.

I am pretty sure we reached the current end of possible discoveries. But some theories about (future) lore are quite interesting and add a lot to the meta game. Why should anyone come out and say: you know, there is nothing else ..

The whole story of ED or basically Elite (yeah, the original) was to venture out and make your own story. Every encounter is another story told in your head. It's that same thing here. We don't need anyone telling us: "NO, you are wrong", because we aren't until it's really important, that there is another story behind it.

I don't know if someone said this already, but. Two or three days after MB made his statement that we should listen to the UAs, there was a pretty loud push by a few people that the devs needed to give us concrete hints, or even tell us outright what was going on. How it was 'long overdue,' and the fanbase were entitled to information Stat.

Now, two or three days after UAs were found, there's another push for more information because it's long over due and we're entitled to it.

Just roll with it, folks. It's fun and we just started this little adventure.

I think there are still a few stones left unturned and quite possibly the answer may be so obvious that we will literally poop bricks when we finally find it and either have a hearty laugh and/or take your degree down from the wall and shred it.

I do believe this is not the end of it. There are too many things going on that really give me the idea that our UA endeavor may just be the first of a VERY LONG series of events that at some point will come full circle even if at some point it'll be as simple as hey? do you remember what that damn UA sounded like because I'm sure that sound is coming from this planet, the surface of a moon, some new thing and/or insert blank here. But I wouldn't downright dismiss it.

One thing is for sure Thursday and Friday we better get some acknowledgment of some sort either through the Dev diary or the Newsletter too many spent too much time on this for it to go poof .....and it's gone.

I understand that Drew has outright stated that there are more clues to come:

Think of it as an intellectual exercise. This is unlikely to be something that will be quickly resolved. You have yet to receive all the clues you require and you need to learn how to read them prior to putting the pieces together. Patience, Commanders.

Cheers

Drew.

Of course, he's most likely referring to the Elite: Reclamation mystery specifically, although some (like me) naturally wonder if these unknown artefacts have anything to do with it too. It's still possible that these are separate mysteries.

Having worked on the BGS with the community in Lugh, and watched the Mercs, and EG, etc. I promise you this much...they knew exactly what would happen when they dropped a one liner on the community. They know how much this community enjoys challenges....the bigger the puzzle, the better the response...fortunately, you had a direct response to your question. 'Yes, they are in game, can be found, and are coded to aurally produce something when you are paying attention.' This beats a 'maybe...' any day! ;P

There's probably nothing as of yet. Look at some facts:

  • ED is starved for content, and the Frontier knows it. They're not fools. You can only shoot ships for big money, dock ships for big money, scan balls for some money, or mine asteroids.
  • If there is some playable feature-complete content out there, they would have announced it already.
  • An actual alien race or whatever would take loads of time and effort.
  • If they drip-feed news to the starving masses, it builds hype and keeps people from leaving.
  • They can use this to buy time to develop 2spooky4me aliens or whatever it is they're planning, and they can even get ideas from what the community is speculating about.
