Engineers unknown fragment for Palin

Sorry but you might have missed the point. Internet is full of info where to find these, but I asked is there any INGAME info or hint where to find. And apperently answer is still no, so if you want to find those legimitly with out reading from internet you have to blindly jump from thousands of systems and then get lucky roll for to get pesific encounter there. FUN and good game design.

Erm, fair point ... not at my pc at the moment so im not sure what the ingame hints are. Will check out later. I guess we kind of get used to finding out stuff the hard way or waiting for the early adopters and keen ones to tell us what to do!

And the unknown fragments stuff is fairly prescriptive it seems...

As someone has surely mentioned already, if your looking to get Unknown Fragments the easiest way is to simply visit the crashed alien vessel. I only had 2 prior to visiting the crash sight and within 10 minutes of landing I had more than enough to complete Palin's requirements as you will find numerous Unknown Artifacts and Unknown Fragments scattered around the main crash sight area.

Location- HIP 17403, body A4A, co-ordinates -34.98 -141.10

Are you sure about these coordinates? I can't see any unknown things around, except for usual crops...

12/23/16 Just wanted to confirm the fragments located in HIP 14479 while playing in solo. I had zero system info and no scanner, so I just flew around looking for moving stars...which were system planets. I flew toward them and usually a USS would show up and it was almost always an Anomaly Detected. Remember that every fragment is actually three fragments and most unknown canisters left two fragments when destroyed. FYI, IGNORE any distress calls or any other USS type. I went into a distress call that spawned wave after wave of pirate NPCs...and by the fourth wave I got out with 8% hull. Stay on target.

Inspired by this thread I went to HIP 14479 on a search for UF's for no real reason other than to have them on hand for the future. I still have yet to unlock Qwent. I have had the Sirius permit since before the Engineers was a thing but have not been there in quite some time.

It took me less than an hour to acquire 27 UF's, mostly as single units. Maybe I rammed them too hard or whatever but I only got two fragments twice. The rest were one-off's.

I think I'm actually going to make a Sirius run and get the Qwent invite now just to get the unlock and then waste some mats to get the Palin invite.

I am so NOT looking forward to the 5k Ly trip for Palin though. I would rather get my short hairs caught in my zipper than to do that. I tried exploration once and didn't get past 900Ly before I turned around and came home.

Does anyone know where to get the unknown fragments?

Like most things in ED its easy when you know how. And, like most things in Elite, if you spent your time investigating the galaxy (actually mostly just the "bubble"), you too would find it easy.

The more I play ED the more I realise that "exploring the sandbox" is what its about. There is a vast "unknown" that to the majority of players seems to remain unknown. But if you do explore - if you do examine the sandbox - you learn things - and finding unknown fragments quickly and easily is one of them.

There is no problem with the game - the problem is self-inflicted by the players that are consumed by grinding for credits - its the only goal they see. And as the old Yorkshire saying goes - "There are none so blind as them that can't see".

Explore and learn about the environment you are living in - and you will do fine.

The Alien ship crash with convoy
HIP 17403 A 4A -34.9831, -14,4127

Plenty of good legal salavge there.

My materials was chock full so I think I went too full with the the x3.
But I waled away with 21 fragments.

Didn't think to relog.

balls

Dropped of the 21 fragments at Palin and thought I'd fly to obsidian station to sell my salvage. (spent hours).
Saw the federation battleship.

Then my kids melted down over PokemonGo login issues. I was AFK for 40 seconds, came back to the rebuy screen 5 mill, and and empty cargo hold,.

****** this game at times.

I'm sitting on those EXACT coordinates, there is no alien wreck here.

the alien crash site is in the center of a creator, and at the center of that is a small mountain, the crash site is at the side of that.

At the crash site you will find normal commodities, fish fruit & veg, consumer products etc, at the alien wreckage in the center you can find 3 alien containers worth 250,000c shoot these and you will get the fragments, also driving around you will find fragments lying around but it will take longer than just relogging.

You need to be at minus 94.38 by minus 141.41. the prev post says -14 he missed out the 1 so its 141

Can confirm. Didn't need them at the time, but I went visiting an Alien Crash Site and fragments are scattered everywhere. Probes are there too which you can destroy for more.
Collected ~30 if I recall; after which I wondered if they would respawn if I changed from Open to Solo (or visa versa) and low and behold they did.

= EASY collections of UA Fragments! Good luck (though its not needed!)

Comfirming also , got around 33 with reloging solo/open mode in 10 mins tops..

I think there's an error in the post about the crash location.

This from the mega thread:

System : HIP 17403
Planet A 4 A
Coord: -34.96 / -141.37

I got 27 from here last night from fragments and shooting alien artifacts at the crash site. I am officially the galaxy's worst Lat / Long navigator... took me longer to find the crash site than it did to collect the frags.

Also, how eerie are those sites, especially at gone 11 at night when you check the forums and find first contact is happening in tandem with you scavenging alien items!

Odd, I have the invite for PP from went and when I check the screen, I only have to do the 5000ly thing. No mention of UA's. Does the bounder add that once you've done the 5000?

IKR? I just did this too, at second crash site. It was pretty eerie. Took all of 10 mins to get all the fragments I needed. A much better way than flying around for hours looking for USS!!

Not Quite but close.
Yes he does a mention after the 5000 LYs, but it is to UA fragments. Basically think like marco qwent, same number different fetched object.
Best part is that they are a lot easier to get. All you have to do is find a UA & ram it, to get 1 fragment which turns in to 3. if you are lucky on where
you hit it, you can get it to break into 2 fragments before picking up & getting 6.
Second best thing is that the unknown Fragments are just another material, so they don't do damage like UA's do.

You realise you are defending one of the most terrible mechanics in this game. Waiting around in space for some rng to kick in and the right signal source to appear. It has nothing to do with the buzzwords "instant gratification" and everything to do with it being a boring, shoddy mechanic.
RNG is a lazy man's mechanic. It shows a complete lack of imagination to program something that can be created under the right conditions and then allowing the player to use their skill to create those conditions. It ends up with a game being less about skill and more about pure luck.

Ah, as soon as I was over 5,000ly away I got the invite from Prof Palin and the requirement for UF came up. Posted to let anyone else know who was wondering like I was.
