Newcomer / Intro Unloading Limpets - Is it Possible

Following the kind suggestions offered in the hitting a brick wall with engineering thread I have resigned myself to becoming combat active for the first time in years. In addition, in order to follow the kind advice, I need to learn how to use limpets. This may seem unbelievable to some but I have never used limpets in any capacity. The last time I did any mining was in a hauler before limpets were introduced into the game (in those days one used one's cargo scoop to collect the rock fragments, and mighty soothing it was too) . So today I have been trying to learn how to use collector limpets and again seem to have got myself into a dead end.

I have, by forgetting that limpets count as cargo and generally not thinking straight, got myself in a position in which a T7 has, amongst other things, got lots of limpets in its hold, more limpets in fact than there is cargo space for in any of my other ships. I need a break from learning limpets and so I wish to change ship to one that is in the garage, but I cannot because of the number of limpets in the T7.

I cannot reconfigure, say my Python, to have enough cargo space because to do so would mean bringing it out of the garage and I cannot bring it out of the garage because it hasn't enough cargo space as it is currently configured; i.e. lots of business class passenger cabins for the Robigo run (Goodness that was boring, only did it for three trips).

The only way I can see around this is to flog off all other cargo and then go in for a bit of galactic fly-tipping; that is to say sail outside the station boundaries and hit the dump cargo buttons. I don't mind the monetary loss that such a course of action would entail but it is not exactly elegant and hardly adds to my green credentials.

I don't believe I am the first player to find themselves with an embarrassing surfeit of limpets and wonder if I have missed something that provides an elegant solution. Anyone with any ideas?

Alternatively, if you don't mind losing 101cr per limpet, you can jettison them while still docked and they just vanish. No littering fine incurred.

You can sell limpets in the same place you buy them. I think its the 'advanced maintenance' screen

This.
Advanced maintenance, Restock.
You don’t even lose any credits as you get the 101 credits back that you paid for them

Yeah buy and sell in the same place, just adjust to a lower amount.

Is that right? Last time I jettisoned I got fined, thats how I discovered the destroy option. Destroy also works in the stations without limpets where you cant sell them.

Going out - gotta enough limpets? Coming back - give back the limpets (unless you need them in the same ship later). As natural now (to me) as repairs and refuel.
I've jettisoned limpets, and had my active limpets recover them. Like 'em. Hate 'em. Live with 'em. Handy helper elves.

I have too - now. Never occurred to me before it happened. Target something. Limpy picks it up - and dies. Find something and Limpies pick them up - until they die. Rush off and kill something while Limpy's busy - no prob (although it's best to fight with the cargo scoop up - they'll catch up and demand entry when they're back). Disposable and indispensable.
Love Limpies!

Can you, by Jove? I did look in there with idea of selling the limpets back but I couldn't see how to do it. I'll try again. Thanks all.
Just click on the left pointing arrow, or the equivalent, and the number of limpets in your hold goes down instead of up.

While we are not on the subject but nearby can I ask why we we have to manually sell the limpets when swopping ship anyway. Why not a pop-up, 'You have too much Cargo, you will sell / destroy X limpets if you change ship. Change ship now anyway Yes/No?'

Or even better - have it so ships can have their own cargo, instead of attaching the cargo to the player!

Everyone would be in a DBX towing 20 T9s full of Cargo.
Quite so. Attaching cargo to individual ships would be no different in practice from allowing players to build warehouses at any system of their desire. The effect would be to radically change the game in as much as very wealthy players, either on their own or as part of a cartel, could totally dominate trade in their area of operation. That would change the relationship between players, between solo and open play, and, all in all, change the game. I am not saying the game would be worse or better but it would be very different.

If memory serves, and at my age it frequently doesn't, there was much discussion about this sort of thing back in 2015 or thereabouts. FD were insistent that they wanted to make their game, the game they wanted, and not someone else's.

I never thought of it that way, but you could mitigate a bit of that by putting in 'Spoil Time' for certain cargo, or limiting ship transport to empty ships.
