Unofficial Post Announcement - Console Transfer Confirmed (Link to Official inside)

I thought to post a fresh topic with details from their post. I’m only putting confirmed details and while other commanders will comment as they please, the point of this is so anyone coming to see what is what, they can read this. They will not need to scroll through pages of another topic anywhere else on the console or PC forum to get the details. I will update this as I see confirmed details, anything else I will not add in the Original Post here.

UPDATE: Confirmed Console wil be able to copy to PC

Console Account Transfers
As announced in our post last week, we're very happy to be able to tell you that console account transfers are making progress behind the scenes, with the dev team hard at work to make sure as much as possible is transferred over should you wish to copy your Commander from console to PC. Secondly, if you've purchased Elite Dangerous on consoles, we'll be giving you a free copy of Elite Dangerous on PC. This will all be done in a limited-time window and the exact details are still being confirmed, but we'll be giving you plenty of heads up so you can prepare if needed.

The team are also gathering the most frequently asked questions about console account transfers so that we can provide you with the answers all at once.

If we made a pc account due to the Xbox announcement previously, will we be able to merge the 2 accounts into 1 on PC or will they stay separate. Need to know before I play anymore PC.
They will be separate accounts. The transfer will not merge details with other existing PC accounts.

More on this as of 5/26:

The account can merge in-terms of purchased cosmetics etc but you won't be able to merge your save data. If you want to transfer your Commander data on console to an already existing account on PC, you'll have to delete the Commander save data that already exists on that account on PC.

If you'd rather keep both, you can create a new Frontier account using a different email address during the transfer process that will give you a free copy of Horizons on PC, that your console Commander data will be transferred to.

update 3:
Hi all!

Thanks for all your queries; we're gathering and relaying them to the development team. When we have a comprehensive list of answers, we'll share them in a separate FAQ post.

Console Profile Transfers

We can now confirm that players will be able to copy their profiles from console to PC in light of Odyssey’s cancellation on Xbox and PlayStation. This process will be time limited and optional. We will provide a date for this process once it is confirmed.

The original profile will remain playable on console and the new PC profile will be a copy. Only one profile may be copied over per copy of the game. Please also be aware that this will be a one-time only process.

Elements that will be copied
  • Ships, Holo-Me, weapons, SRVs and SLFs
    • Including Cobra Mk IV if owned
  • Core progression (this includes…)
    • Inventory
    • Reputation
    • Navy Ranks
    • Permits
    • Codex Discoveries
    • Engineering progress
    • Guardian Tech Broker progress
  • NPC Crew progress
  • Cosmetics*
*Cosmetic items applied through the Livery (ships and Fleet Carriers) and Holo-Me will remain applied.

Elements that won’t be copied
  • Commander name*
  • ARX Balance**
  • Squadron membership
  • Friends lists, Block lists and Private Groups
  • Current mission progress
  • NPC Crew names and appearances

*The process will require a new name to be chosen if the original name is not available on PC.

**ARX balances cannot be transferred. We recommend that anyone who submits their account for the transfer process purchases any desired cosmetics beforehand. Any unspent ARX post-transfer will remain available on the original console profile.

Added most recent link. Make sure to read all of the faq. Yeeesh I feared this would happen. Looks like disc owners for Xbox one are going to miss out.

Basically we have to delete our PC save if we already started on PC. I have Odyssey so no more Pc gameplay until Sept-Oct it seems

Not to discredit the amount of work this may take but…my head goes to what were they doing for a year?

Meaning…before this was announced meeting about the decision had to occur well beforehand as they were telling us early one PC optimization was needed. Then we stopped getting console specific updates, not even a “we have nothing to share at this time”

So if I assume they did not decided until a week prior to giving the announcement I can’t believe that no one in any meeting thought or suggested, we should give them an opportunity to move to PC. Meaning someone with zero programming and development knowledge but who has a responsibility to manage a run a company would have said…how to do cut our losses and increase profits when Odyssey reaches a better state on PC.

Maybe I’m in different worlds and being an America, our thought process likely holds different values.
Just continue to read stuff on this game and it begs this was initially for a small niche crowd and the developers are dead stuck on trying to get back to that small player base with a very low overhead.

I dont have a gaming PC. Im a sofa gamer. I bought the XBOX series X specifically to play Odyssey. Have been playing Elite on console for years and grinded out every ship in the game. Even a carrier. Havent played since the Odyssey "release" because of anger & saltyness. Well, as I now see there is a transfer of account from console to PC as well, im guessing that console support will be discontinued all together? So its now confirmed, that we got d by Frontier basically?

PC and console version 3.8 was allready confirmed as ended development in march 2022 with a statement saying so from david..
If you did not block there emails you sould have allready had this confirmed via emails...
Notification of account transfer offer has been sent multi times via email as well...
Elite dangerous is moving to a new game engine build of the cobra engine for all PC users only the new engine will get content updates. 4.0 is the new engine build tthat runs EDO and that build is the only build that will get content updates. horizons for PC is moving to an 4.0 build as well..

3.8 is not being switched off but no new features and no real narrative will ever be seen on 3.8... All current 3.8 features will still run on PC 3.8 and console 3.8 versions ...
For PC users moving to 4.0 will be a choice not forced.. console will not get 4.0...
To see the narrative you have to complete transfer to PC 4.0 that can be via native PC hardware or via running Streaming game services in browser like geforce now that will run in Xbox web browser with Contoller... and run on many other devices...
server compliance update patches have been issued to version 3.8 to keep that version online since march statement... PC and console 3.8 will get compatibility updates to keep both versions on line as version 4.0 breaks them, they have allready been doing that at every big EDO 4.0 update allready to keep compliance with EDO servers..

On the home screen at the bottom of horizons screen they now call them compatability updates not horizons features updates...

Thanks for info and to take time to answer. So much for frontier, elite dangerous then for my part I guess. Good luck guys, it was fun as long as it lasted! I will downvote frontier games whenever i see them around! Im salty and feel they have betrayed console players.
