Can we agree on an American Flamingo as the middle way then? Because I'd rather have a colored Flamingo than any duck.

Just curious, as ducks are among the most unique animals still missing from the game with a major niche both for zoos but also non zoo builds.
Id also like a second smaller and more colorfull flamingo, but we really need something for our ponds, lakes and other bodies of waters like ducks, swans or geese.

Because I'd prefer a better model that reminds me more of Flamingos in zoos over a duck. Yes, ducks on ponds would be cool, but is usually nothing where the average zoo visitor would stop. There are a lot of other birds I'd prefer for a zoo. Other Flamingos, Emu, Pelican, Marabou...
I have no idea if these are "unpopular" animals or not (I know they're kind of controversial), but I REALLY want cetaceans in the game. I would be happy with even just bottlenose dolphins.
There are many very colorful ducks. I would argue they are more visually interesting than a monochrome flamingo.
I would definitely like to have brown hyena, aardwolf, african leopard, bottlenose dolphin, amazon river dolphin, red fox, white tailed eagle, lar gibbon, european house cat (that can roam free inside the zoo), barbary lion, yellow throated marten, stoat, marbled polecat and maybe narwhale or beluga whale...
You know, a good compromise could be what Zoo Tycoon 2 did: do y'all remember the Blue Whale Hall? Teaches guests about blue whales (duh). Maybe a building that does a similar function (although you can technically make it, just I dunno, shooting out ideas)
Of those, I love the fox, hyenas, and the boto is cool, although maybe not popular due to controversies
I made some new favourites that I think wont unfortunately make it, but I would really like to see:
Reeves's Muntjac - small asian deer, would really like them as we dont have many asian ungulates. This one could even share enclosure with Red Panda. I was surprised how common they are in EU zoos, apparently in 153 holdings.
Lion-Tail Macaque
Patagonian Mara - Not as unpopular I guess, but nowhere near the top. Would really like this weird rabbit-kangaroo-capybara thing.

Yes please, especially the mara; kudos to Frontier if they add the mara PLUS bring some Argentine cuisine (oh man, yerba mate, fried empanadas with chimichurri, alfajores de maicena. I'm hoping for all three of these but expecting none of them. I visited a zoo recently that actually keeps a Reeve's muntjac alongside a group of maras (as well as Bennett's wallabies), so it's funny seeing them listed together. In addition to walruses and lots of birds, I would love to have hares.
I'm amazed so few of you have hares on your radar. They would bring a lot of new motion animations. I think the way they move is pretty unique in the animal kingdom, so I want to promote hares here!

I’m really hoping one day for Scottish Highland Cattle. I know domestic species are quite a controversial pick, but I think if we get one more domestic species in-game, it should be the Highland Cattle. With the Llama, the Highland Cattle and perhaps a Miniature Goat species, we could finally make realistic petting zoo/barnyard sections for our zoo that don’t seem too unrealistically exotic!
To be honest I'd take really any other bird than another flamingo.
That said I'm not totally on board with ducks. In terms of aquatic birds I'd rather get the pelican then a swan.
I love Scottish highland cattle - it's definitely on my list of approved domestic breeds, along with the kunekune pig and the dwarf goat.
Add the watusi and you got my most wanted domesticated breeds
