I'm a bit baffled by the notion that every community goal should be designed to allow 100% player participation. This doesn't happen IRL on our one tiny planet, so how is this reasonable to expect in a huge collection of star systems?
Consider the following example: From what I can tell, the wedding of William and Kate was a community event of a sorts, and a big one at that. However, I suspect only the "upper echelon" of British society - a chosen few - were able to attend the ceremony itself at Westminster Abbey. This might be analogous to Ed's inclusive group during Part 1 of the E3 CG.
Afterwards I believe there was a huge parade through London open to the public. If I had taken time off of work, invested in a ticket, and flown across the ocean, I could have attended this event. Nahh, too much work and money. However, many people in proximity of the event attended and had a blast.
So what did I do? Did I moan and complain about how unfair the world is? No, I watched the event unfold via livesteam and enjoyed it from afar. I'm happy for everyone who participated in the event, and I think the event itself has added to the richness and lore of Britain. I see no reason to be sour.
I happen to live in a pretty boring "quadrant" of the world, so I tend to miss out on most "community events", unless it's some small town America shindig like happens on July 4th. I could move to where the action is, but I happen to like it here, and day-to-day life keeps me busy and happy. I keep up on the events of the world via the news, live streams, friends, etc. Once in a while I go on an exciting vacation to take part in a big community event, but I don't go chasing every single event happening all across America and the world.
Perhaps for my next vacation, I'll go to New Mexico and see if I can get abducted by an alien. If I wait for hours and no aliens grab me, I'll come to this forum and complain
