Upcomming beta testing (1.1 and 1.2): Decal as cratification would be nice.

The game has now been released, and you are mixed with players who started on the 16th december (like me). Do you honnestly think it would be fair if all patch beta tests were if facts "early accesses" ? I didnt see anything like that in the backers reward tiers. Handing rewards like this out of the blue would contribute creating a two ways userbase.

Did you not see the post from Michael Brookes I cited a few posts above this?

It's a separate client, with a different commander and progress/changes will not be transferable.

Michael

You do realize we kept everything from Gamma? The only features in 1.1 are the ship/station building and exploration data, I can understand no status rank gains from that. But to lock people out from making any money at all sounds like nonsense... Still not heard anything from the devs that would suggest that is the case.

This whole issue was covered (at some length) in the 29.01.2015 Dev Update thread. Nothing will carry over from the 1.1 beta test into the main game except, possibly, a slight sense of deja vu.

I look forward to doing a bit more testing and see it as a bit of a break from the game proper. I can see where the OP is coming from but, in common with some of the other posts here, I'm not really interested in a reward.

Sorry but you are misunderstanding me. I am not bothered about the new functions, will happily beta test them with no gain in rank/status etc. However, beta testing is not a constant test of new mechanics, you still play the game as normal the majority of the time. So why should I not be able to trade and make money?

As far as I am aware at no point have the devs said we can not still use the existing functions of the game to play as normal. We are just being separated from the main servers so 'extra' content can be added and tested.

I do not want any sort of reward for beta testing.

I'll do it to help shape the progress of the update, and to ensure that any bugs I find are reported, so that others will not experience them come release.
The satisfaction of helping the game develop is good enough for me :)

Ok thanks, mate. so how does it work? I can just go crazy for a few day's with no consequences while testing? Fair enough. I'll check out the link you posted.

EDIT - 16 pages, after reading the main post I am still unable to see an answer stating we get wiped to pre 1.1 All Mike says is anything gained from the NEW functions will not carry through to the public release.

Am not saying I am right, would just like to read the part where it say's 'everything' get's reset.

Cheers

I see the decal idea as similar to a "certificate of participation" when you help out at a charity or something - of no intrinsic value in itself, but nice to be recognised by the people you're helping.

I once did a charity motorbike rides thing for "Camp Quality", a mob that help improve the life of kids with cancer, and they gave me a Camp Quality tshirt. That was nice and I wear it with pride, but I did it to help, not for the tshirt. I've got a similar tshirt from an old people's home in the Philippines where to volunteered to be a photographer for an event they were holding... and a stuffed toy dragon from an orphanage in Vietnam called "Blue Dragon" that helps out street kids. I've also got a bunch of tshirts, badges, patches etc from various charity rides, christmas gift runs, and so on I've been on over the years. I'm proud of all these things because they remind me of times I've helped, but they're not why I helped. They help me remember how good it felt to help, they encourage me to help more, and they make me feel like my help was appreciated. They can also encourage others to help out in future - not for the tshirt or the decal etc, but simply by raising awareness.

I am sorry but isn't it enough that you get rebuy discount on insurance and the fact that you get to test new features out before everyone else? Also isn't the founders world permit enough either? Someone gives you their finger and you take the whole hand.

You're still not getting it.

1) Separate game client

2) Separate commander in said separate game client

3) No transferring of any progress in separate game, to 'live' game.

I also do not WANT anything for testing but if they were to offer a decal I would be very grateful! Or maybe even an in cockpit decoration that others can only see if they fly very very very close!

What founders world permit? That's only for kickstarters as far as I know. I'm a prem beta and I didn't get that. (I did get a Sol permit though.)

And you are not getting it, I am fine with all of this. Would just like to read the official post. PLEASE provide a link. This is a community right? I follow the news letters and I had already read the initial post that mike sent. Obviously I am not looking in the right place for stuff like this, and would like a little help.

I am also not aware of how long this Beta lasts for, a week? And do we have an option to opt out?

Where in this initial post does it state your 3 points https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=106524

It's in the most recent newsletter. The beta's for "roughly" a week assuming nothing bugs out terribly, after that new content will be available to all, and the "beta test world" will be deleted along with any progress you make there. You don't have to do it at all if you don't want... just keep playing the standard game if you don't want to beta test.

[edit] apologies.. dev diary, not newsletter (tho it talks about it too, and the associated thread.).

Okay for the 3rd time in this very thread... read my previous posts if you don't believe me...

It's a separate client, with a different commander and progress/changes will not be transferable.

Thanks mate, so I assume that quote was buried within the 16 pages of people arguing..

@Sandman. Thanks dude, good to know I have the option to keep using my original commander. I'll reread the newsletter.

If you click the Red Elite icon to the top right of a staff post it will take you to the next staff post, repeat until you run out of staff posts. Very useful if you're only really interested in what staff have to say in a thread they've contributed to.

This icon is also available on the forum index of a topic they've responded to.

I don't need any reward for Alpha/Beta testing. Helping the game become better and with fewer bugs is reward enough itself.
