Update 11 - Finishing Touches (Are you sitting comfortably?)

I'd say it'd debatable since:
  • it's confirmed the latest beta AMD RX6000 drivers are crashing EDO when nearby or on planetary surfaces
  • i've seen a quite enough number of reports of EDO crashing with 500 series of NVidia drivers to keep me from upgrading from 497.x (and even with 497 i've had a number of planetary crashes that for a while i considered dropping to 467.x or so - and i'm still considering it...)
I'd bet you're an outlier, as I'm having no issues on the later Nvidea versions :sneaky:

The AMD issue seems more widespread, and given one of the major changes in that driver was DX11 performance it does seem more correlated. Surprised I haven't seen any reports from other games, but fdev is known for pushing limits (and they aren't a common engine, so maybe not on the list of games to test)

Also highlights how complicated it must be to sort these issues out when a driver can wreck a game without anything changing at fdev's end :(

I'm not even sure of that since i havent upgraded to 5xx series. I might have no issues either.

But:
- i did read a lot of reports from people that did had issues with 500 and which issues resolved when reverting to 400 series of drivers,
and
- i've experienced quite a number of crashes meself with 497.09 (which lead me to consider to drop to 466), including a series of 5-6 consecutive CTD while disembarking in an Impact Site. Not sure what changed, but i eventually managed to get through that mission without doing anything else except persisting in restarting the game (i didnt changed any settings and i play 1080p, everything on ultra/ultra+ with terrain generation all to the right and no fsr or any sort of upscaling/downscaling)

So, while it's definitely not as widespread as the issues with AMD beta drivers, there are definitely some issues with certain nvidia setups, 500 series (maybe including 497 too, but to a lesser extent) drivers and EDO - issues that are not manifesting as often (or none at all) with older driver versions

Probably other too, but i cba to search too much

And these AMD driver issues seem to only be affecting RDNA2 cards, as my RX 580 is running the latest beta drivers (22.5.2) and works fine. Indeed, I've been running the latest betas as soon as they release for the past few years, and never had an issue with any game..

Hey quick question here what are your full rig specs? And how EDO performance is on your rig ?

RX 6800XT, Ryzen 5900x, 4 TB disc space, 32 GBi of ram , HP Revrb Gen 2. everything works super when the drivers are correct . Also did a fresh install over this. I do not play the on foot stuff, looking for plants is not my idea of a space game plus it's not in VR. Also If I wanted to play PvP I would be playing something like COD. the on foot stuff just does not fit in to my idea of a space game.
