Update 11 - Release Date Change

Lets hope FD have thought about interiors properly, and included what is needed most.

Toilets.

Because when you are on the edge of the galaxy, wanting to produce 2 of the biowaste will become socially awkward otherwise. I can sense a Polygon article now - after the players as 'forced helpers' incident this might be the hammer blow that flushes ED and FD into the lemon scented bowl of oblivion.

I don't think we have seen the full scope of what was laid down in "New Era" yet. The re-prioritisation and focus on optimisation post Odyssey launch and the resulting delay in merging the two code bases has surely put a huge spanner in the original plans. I think we need to wait until the code bases are merged before we can tell what the scale of New Era is.
Sure. Thing is we are now entering the waters of "too little too late". And no plans for the future, like "we want the game to look/be like that in x years". It is clear now they don't "own" the code. Hence the many issues in whatever they touch. I am afraid that a "from scratch" recoding may be needed. Which may in turn be a good thing longterm. Probably also invest in new engine that will drive us in the future and the graphics settings wont be just decorative (literally changing text quality or anti-aliasing from ultra to low gives out same fps). The game also is actually a Single player game with multiplayer "touches". That's not future. Game needs to be able to support multiplayer in the code and in server resources. The fact they are now hiring a new chief developer is a good sign. But eventually they need to talk to us about whats coming, before the player base losses another 50% and then nothing will really matter in anything we say....

Meanwhile, back on page 6 of this thread... ☝️

My stance is the same as it was then. Better for the update to be right and delayed than deployed and severely broken.

I have the patience to wait for as long as required and I don't need a "date" to fixate on either. Putting a date on a release that is as complex as this one is foolhardy IMO.

Let's face it, this update is not just FC interiors, it's not just a jump animation (which I admit, is something I'm really excited to see), it's an entirely new trading system when players are on a Fleet Carrier, plus there are other fixes and changes for the wider game incoming in the same update.

The issues encountered could be anywhere. Update 11 is not a trivial update in the slightest. It's a large, complex update that deserves respect from the Dev's, QA's and players alike. The last of these, the most because we just consume it, the Dev's and QA's craft and test it. With the best will in the world, the QA's will never catch everything because their test systems are divergent from production. It's the nature of the beast, as players we're not interacting with the test system so QA's don't see the weird and whacky things we do as players to the system. IME, users of any system will find "workarounds" and ways to do things that the designers of that system never planned for or envisaged.

Give FDev the space to get things as right as then can but still expect issues because the game is large, complex and written by HUMAN BEINGS who make mistakes despite their best efforts. Applying a large complex update to a large complex piece of software is never trivial or without risk of issues, unforeseen or otherwise.

Also, and this is coming from an '84 vet. that loves Elite very, very much. However much we'd like to think it's our second life, IT'S JUST A GAME to pass our time in a fun and enjoyable way, there's no need for players to be so serious and no need to link every update to the slightest change in the price of stock of the company etc. All that is a waste of your time as is writing most of this post for me I suspect because the point will be missed by many!

That would be last year. When you release an Alpha game which you actually DIDNT RUN in your pc ONCE, you lose that right..... OF course we support the help, game is great, but without a proper development team and most importantly, without a proper communication with the community, you cant go anywhere these days. And when I mean "community" I don't mean me and you and the average Merry, but the representatives or proven channels, like Canon, AXI, NPI, Rats, people who know why it matter the challenger to have size 6 distro and not size 5. Yes we will wait but the receipy for the future is still wrong. No future product rollout plan, not channels with community, nothing. And you know, in a sandbox game, most content is made by players using the sandbox tools. Give us the tools.....support community with events led by fdev. JUst look at no mans sky and you will get an idea on how much this game has been abandoned.

I hope this delay can squeeze in a fix for that annoying bug where if you switch from the Drake-Class carrier to one of the other three carrier cosmetic variants (Victory, Fortune, Nautilus), the game refuses to let you switch back to the Drake-Class because it doesn't show up anymore in the livery screen without having to decommission and rebuy the carrier first.

Support told me they can't manually change a carrier layout and that the only way to get it back is to decommission and they'll reimburse any credit costs, been this way for a few updates now and every time a new update comes out, the issue tracker reports gets closed as 'expired' so there's just a bunch of closed bug reports on there that never get addressed.

Good thing I didn't buy any other carrier skins. :)
