Update 12 - 0.03 m/s Download speed after 70% using frontier client

Just like in title, I started downloading update 12 using frontier client.

It was all fine until 70%, and it got stuck at those abysmall download speed. Yes, I did try canceling and downloading (with restart of client too) again few times but since 5 hours, its stay at 0.03 m/s once it hits 70%... While normally it should be 20-30 m/s, like it was at until it hit 70% complete.

Anyone else have this problem?

Kind of, Im using LTE (since few years) otherwise cant have acces to internet.

Anything else downloads normally, its something wierd with frontier client itself. Thing was never downloading fast, but today, it got new height of being ridiculous and useless.

I downloaded the update around the same time as you, and it was done in the time it took for me to go downstairs and make a mug of tea and a sandwich for lunch.

I'm guessing its your LTE connection being throttled after X amount of data usage?

Have you checked your drive usage? Client shows entire process, not just downlod process. It's same on steam, the progress bar shows entire process on how long it takes for game to be ready to play, but that progress is broken into 2-4 parts.
1. downloading new files
2. removing and/or overwriting old files
3. installing new files
4. removing old and temp files

So after step 1 is complete, game still needs to install the files. For example Dead by Daylight is one of those games that takes HOURS to install an update even after the files have been downloaded, they have a very bad method, so it takes very long time.

If you're using HDD and your HDD is fragmented, it can take quite long to do steps 2-4. Defragmenting your HDD would help, however if you're on SSD, then all you can do is wait.
Also certain anti-viruses can interfere with installation of files, because AV will check each file, so if files are being created faster than AV can work, it will bottleneck and slow down the entire process. I don't feel it on my main gaming PC, but I use older dual-core laptop as my media station that is connected to TV and it has that issue, when installing or even running multiple programs or browsers, it goes to coma due the AV, I had to disable it completely.

All that said, ED updates have always been fast for me via steam, while some other games take ages to install updates. What you can do is get some free tools and check your network and SSD/HDD usage and see where the bottleneck is. Hope this helps.

Its certainly not the issue here. If I use any other client (Steam, Origin etc.) to download or from anywhere else, I can download much gb's as I want and it wont slow down... as I dont have data transfer limits or anything like that on my LTE.

Only frontier launcher client have wierd this "issue", where downloading a 5gb update can take about 9 hours wich took for this case.
I started to download update 12 at about around 15.30 PM (kind of way ealier than you did) and it was not done until at 0.42 AM.
Funny and mysteriuos thing is that initial 70% was done within few mins, remain 30% of data took that much longer.

Meanwhile, I was able to download from steam a 28 gb game and install it without any problems, and it was done within about 35 mins (while elite was still updating).
Thats about 6 times much as data downloaded at 35min vs 5.5 gb update for elite wich took over 9 hours...

I have no idea whats going on with frontier servers, but is clearly something very wrong on thier end, not mine(I guess I am on their blacklist or something), where download speed was wierdly capped at 0.03 mb/s after certain point, and it would sometimes go up to like only up to 2-3 mb/s for min or two, only to be back at 0.03 mb/s. Again, before I hit that 70% mark, download speed was at 20 to 30 mb/s.

Its not first time I had issue with downloading a update using frontier launcher, but that oddy update 12 was so far worst of worst I had so far.
And Ive been dealing with this launcher since launch of elite at 2014, and few years ago, it worked much, much more better.

Mine downloaded with no problems, it could be the other sites have local mirrors that aren't subject to data throttling.

Generally if only one person is having a particular problem it's usually something their end or an issue between them and the frontier server, this is the first one I have seen here so far, if it was common the forums would be flooded. Do you have another type of connection you can test with? Maybe use your mobile as a link for a few minutes just to see of the issue happens there as well?

Maybe it's not the download but they are extracting / installing / validating at the same time? In that case it could be your HDD, maybe you want to run chkdsk. Or it's just Frontier.

Other connection than LTE I do have, is from my phone, but have no idea how I can test it up with frontier server. I do know that its not as fast than my LTE, but downloading anything never took long with it.

Maybe thats why. Still got plently of free space on my HDD, and other clients have no such issues when those are validating thier files (I mean, its not taking as long like frontier client does)

Both oddy and horizon are updated by now. Oddly enough, horizon update took much faster, but speed was 5 - 6 mb/s at top. And yep, it had to be reseted twice, due of "network failure" so it took about 1 hour to download horizon update.

The server has nothing to do with the type of connection, you just set it up as a mobile hotspot, give it a password then connect to to that instead of your current connection using wifi where you will see it as an available connection. Then just fire up the ED launcher and let it go and see how fast it runs.

I see, I try that next time when hotfix arrive, wich probly we will be getting sooner or later.

This.

I find that all of my problems in life can be categorised as either being caused by Frontier or caused by anything else.

Seriously though, my internet is currently extremely slow, so slow that it's possibly faster to send data via pigeon, but the update worked OK and my guess is the amount of actual data required to download was tiny on this update.
