Update 18 | Update Notes

But, but, but "are we there yet?"

On a more serious note, is the 30GB client download available yet, or it it normally after the servers come back online?

If it's available, what the version string (I use GFN so have no control over the download)

IIRC the GFN Steam client update usually happens automatically an hour or three after the servers come back up, you see "Game client being updated" and can't launch until it's complete.

The Epic Games client update seems to require a manual touch by Nvidia and usually happens after I've raised a ticket and nagged them for a day or so ;)

M still hoping that the 'war' does suddenly become galactic once the torpedos have been fired, I guess, then I'd have to be involved in it, rather than able to go about my days innocently whistling as I liberate expensive cargo.
I wouldn't mind if the Thargoid Sensors found in the occasional Non-Human Signature POIs in the black could be interacted with, causing the intervention of their owners.
With the FC not too far, I would happily swap to one of my AX ships to distract myself briefly from my exploration (which I absolutely love).

Yeah I did mention in another thread that is has never been confirmed that the new Python would be released with patch 18, but maybe they just forgot to mention it!
Yes, they mentioned it a month ago.
It was pretty clearly stated that they intended to release the new ship(s) BETWEEN updates 18 and 19.

I too am disappointed that one of the most awaited updates in a very long time seems to only add new content to the segment of players who have gone through the trouble of grinding their AX ships to be able to enter the maelstorms (which excludes me, among many others I'm sure), but I don't see a reason to be so damn negative about it.

At least appreciate that they are still developing the game.
IMO the game went down hill when it catered for consol players, the game became more pew pew to suit their game play, especially when CQC was added when the game needed so much more core work done. I haven't got a problem with the Thargoid story line except every update has been about that and no other game inprovements. I remember Sir DB talking in his Dev diaries about Thargoid war and the story lines which never materialised for instance saying that you could actually become allies with them if you didn't want to fight and the game has been going now over 10 years and we still can't land on ELW's, being a backer and an original 84er I don't actually think I will live long enough to see this in game.

The last I read was from when the Issue Tracker entry was removed and a "patch note" entry made saying they had tried but couldn't/wouldn't do anything else in regards to fixing the AA.
As I've learned, older MSAA and SMAA don't work with modern rendering techniques, resulting in shimmering. MLAA is/was an attempt to have something that kind of works, but is not very good either being a post-processing AA technique. That's why TAA is pretty much the only AA technique used today, but has it's own problems (blurryness, ghosting) and I'm not sure how easy it is to implement in older game engines (it being a temporal, not spatial AA technique). Skyrim SE replaced MSAA in the old 32 bit Creation Engine with TAA in the newer 64 bit version and it works well, but Cobra engine might be very different in this aspect.

My best results for mitigating, but not eliminating, shimmering in E: D has been with Reshade with FXAA and some other AA plugin which name escapes me at the moment (maybe it was DLAA? Not sure...). Upping resolution scale to 1.5 also helps, if your GPU can handle it.

LOL... glad that you caught the Monty Python reference, but yes I see the "reference to vomit" now.
But I wonder, does the titan eat a wafer thin mint before it vomits ?
I think the Mr. Creosote scene is the most disgusting thing the Pythons ever created. Maybe on par with the "can we have your liver" scene and the "Monty Python sings" compilation.

o7 CMDR´s
So the update .18 is finally lurking around the corner, but steam launcher seems to be to lazy to pick up the required update at the startup, or do I need to update it through the Frontier Launcher after starting Steam?
Being so confused after a short break of playing ED of only roundabout 2 years in total, all feels a bit wonky to start. :)

VR Headset - check
Voiceattack - check
H.O.T.A.S - check
Hated Odyssey DLC finally installed - check
Let the battle begin and hopefully it will not end up as the odyssey disaster in the past +fingers crossed+
See you soon spaceside
