ANNOUNCEMENT Upgrade to Alpha Discount

Hey Frontier, paying the difference between a cheaper product and a more expensive product is NOT a discount! That's an upgrade. And seeing's as you apparently don't get all the perks associated with that KS level, it's a bit of a crappy upgrade. Are you lot getting as greedy as RSI???

this has nothing to do with the Kickstarter, everyone and their dog had a whole year to upgrade and receive KS bonuses. the Kickstarter has finished. this offer is for those people who cant wait for beta and want to be part of the Alpha.

that's how I see it.

It IS a discount over the previous business offer, and to anybody who paid for Beta access who would otherwise have to pay £200 for Alpha access. See?

"you apparently don't get all the perks associated with that KS level, it's a bit of a crappy upgrade"

The key phrase here is "Kickstarter", and the fact that, yes, those folks who actually put their hands in their pockets WHEN IT MATTERED are those who are ENTITLED to perks.

Also, if you don't like it, feel free not to take advantage of it!

I purchased the Premium Beta because I was given to believe the beta would kick in this month, January.

When I received this email offer I thought "discount" meant an actual lowering of the alpha price...not just another chance to upgrade to it from my beta. Had I wished to pay another $160 plus dollars to enjoin this month I would have at the outset and have enjoyed two or three extra weeks of play for the same amount.

So this offer implies that normally, if I had second thoughts about my Premium Beta purchase I would still have to pay the full Alpha price...with no credit for my beta purchase?

Even Adobe isn't that cut-throat...and I hate their subscription policy. But they used to offer an upgrade route that discounted what the customer had already paid for the lower tier program.

I don't consider this a "discount" at all.

I will wait. My wife already wants to drill me a new you-know-what for having put this much money into a game.

And I am NOT asking for perks like those who popped for the KS. I didn't even know about it... I just don't want to be pounced on by those who think I am asking for those things...I just don't consider this a bargain or a discount at all.

And does this mean that the beta is being put further off?

I have standard beta, £80 pledge on kickstarter including expansions. it's showing £50 on the store, so £150 to pay.
So if I'd bought the beta and expansions later it would be showing £85 and I'd have £115 to pay?

Hmmmm...

There is no discount!!!!!

I bought the Beta Premium for a £100 a couple of weeks ago, I can upgrade to the Alpha for another £100. So £200 to get into the Alpha......all you are letting us do is spread the cost of getting in.

I have exact same issue. There is no discount!.

Checkout screen asks me to pay 100 pounds more to get into Alpha, I already have premium beta for 100p. So where is the discount ?

It is still 200 pounds for Alpha regardless. Alpha already comes with Expansion/premium Beta Access.

Unless my checkout is bugged ?

That was the situation, and that is now rectified. You now no longer have to pay £200 for the Alpha if you have already paid, say, £100 for the Beta. The price is DISCOUNTED to you to £100 from the £200 it would have cost you yesterday.

It should simply have said "Are you sure you don't want to upgrade?"

Then I would have thought that the balance due would correctly reflect the subtraction of what I had already paid.

No matter how you clothe it I think charging the full amount for the alpha and not taking into account the amount paid already for the beta was a poorly thought out policy...for it implies punishing those who felt they could not afford the alpha, or whatever their reason was for not buying in to the alpha stage.

I know you said this was a change in policy...and I am glad they came to their senses and did it...but that does not in any way make it a discount.

Just to be sure if I DO upgrade it's an upgrade to Alpha access only and my kickstarter perks are still valid at the level I pledged yeah ?

Please note that in buying the Alpha through the online store you are receiving what is listed in the product description and not what was offered during the Elite: Dangerous Kickstarter campaign. The pledging period has now ended.

So I would say no, which isn't very good if you ask me. Not that I would be upgrading anyway lol

Nah surely they wouldn't wipe the pledge rewards, that would be insane ?

Reading the FAQ a bit more it would appear I already "own" the products I bought in kickstarter so I'd say they are safe

They only value the shop product amount as the "discount"

eg if you pledged £40 for Gamma Game +credits +ship in KS, your discount is the £35 game.

Or pledge £95 for standard beta game + expansion +credits +ship +mug in KS, your discount is £50 for beta and £35 for expansion.

From that I would say the KS pledge bit (outside of shop product price) is not included.

I would prefer the word 'upgrade' instead of 'discount'. And allowing this upgrade to Alpha makes me wonder how long the premium beta will be delayed...

With the possibility to upgrade I hope Frontier will give a little bit more insight in people are upgrading to... for example a bit more information about the duration of the Alpha phase. Besides that, I think it would be a wise step to de-activate the Alpha upgrade offer 1 or 2 weeks before the next (beta) phase to prevent people from getting 'hurt' by buying alpha when Beta starts the next day. De-activating the upgrade to alpha could be combined with opening a new upgrade path to premium beta.

On the quality of the 'discount offer'. It is a very reasonable option for people who bought the game (or beta/ premium beta) in the ZA store. But for people who pledged during the KS this is not always the case and upgrading can be quite expensive unfortunately.

Thanks, but no-thanks i can wait...

Me too.

I only purchased the premium BETA last week for £100, at which point I could have bought full ALPHA access for £200. With this offer I can pay another £100 to get exactly the same package as I could have last week.

Not really a discount just a way of getting ALPHA access in installments.

Cheers,

Kro

Or pledge £95 for standard beta game + expansion +credits +ship +mug in KS, your discount is £50 for beta and £35 for expansion.

Getting the expansions through kickstarter doesn't seem to mean getting the expansion pack in the store. Discount is £50 in that case (unless my account is wrong)

In the shop it wants to charge me another £200 to get the Alpha. I guess I missed it again. I just hope the £80 I put in hasn't vanished. I can't seem to get on anywhere to check anyway.
