Horizons upgrading ship need some advise

I own an ASP explorer, upgraded it as much as I can in the outfitting section, but my jump range still is no more than 13 ly.
Still, I read that my asp can jump much further. What do I need or do to expand my jump range.
Any help is welcome.

Thanks.

- buy a FSD of the appropriate size. do not put a 4A FSD into a class 5 slot, etc. put a 5D, 5C, 5B, 5A ... a class 5 FSD
- buy a better FSD.
- fit more lightweight moduls. 5D thrusters instead of 5A, no bulkheads, etc.
- without engineering a typically in-bubble AspE will sit at 30 ly jumprange unladen, and around 24 ly fully laden.

Make sure you've got the highest rated FSD (5A), you can also use lightweight modules (D class) for sensors, thrusters (go 4D or 5D).. Also strip out any optional modules you don't need, and just fit the bare minimum shields that you find acceptable.

I'm assuming you want this to be an exploration build?? If that's the case take a look at this link for my own build for an un-engineered asp...https://coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/asp?code=A0pitdFflid5snf5------02---3c430l0lv62f2i.Iw18WQ%3D%3D.Aw18WQ%3D%3D..EweloBhBmSQUwIYHMA28QgIwV0A%3D

It'll give a 33.19Ly range, is still able to boost and has just enough shields for planetary landings :)

To make it easy on yourself, filter your Galaxy map for high tech starports. They usually have full outfitting options.... usually.

Thanks guys, 29 ly now. Found the right stuff and knew now what to buy.
Exploring will be a lot faster this way. [yesnod]

good!

but exploring will be as fast as before. you can visit and scan the same numbers of systems in an unengineered adder as in a fully maxed out and engineered conda. people usually overestimate the effect of jumprange even on a trip to sag a* ... my own experience is the time spent jumping is below 20% of the total time ingame on such a trip.

You don't need weapons for exploring, and you only need minimal shields, like 3D, which saves a lot of weight. You don't need shields at all if you don't want to keep landing.

If you're going to have a go at the water world and terraformables money-making circuit, all you need is the scanners and a big fuel scoop.

Here is my build (without the engineer mods). If you dump the weapons (even though I haven't needed them when exploring, I feel naked without them), it will push another .5ly to your jumps. I added the cargo and the business class module to pick up things in USS in deep space (as they do appear from time to time), and in case I decided to take a VIP out 5k+ light years from the bubble.

You can remove the business class mod, and add another AFMU as a backup and gain another .5ly. However, this will get you to where you need to go, and push 32ly per jump. If you have the materials for the FSD engineer mod, I strongly recommend. I am pushing approximately 45ly with the FSD 5 engineer upgrade. Most importantly, remember your fuel scoop, or it will be a very short lived (literally) exploration expedition.

By the way, respectfully, I do not agree with placing a lower than A class power plant in the ASP, as the A class disperse heat most efficiently of all classes, so it is better to drop down to class 4 A power plant than it would be to go with a lower class higher size power plant. I made that mistake the first time exploring, and my Asp was overheating on long fuel scoop runs around the star. You will find yourself stuck here and there without a scoopable star resulting in the expenditure of the bulk of your fuel before finding a compatible star to refuel using your fuel scoop. Stick with a class A powerplant. 4A will be more than ample power for the below linked build:
