Hardware & Technical Users System Specs

[Suggestion]

I was looking at this spreadsheet last night because I wanted to see what performance people are getting with various hardware. I'm presently considering which hardware to buy to upgrade my system.

I'd like to make a few suggestions: Firstly, it would be really helpful if people update the FPS they get from the game. At the moment there is a huge blank space in the FPS column. I suspect people have forgotten about it so perhaps a reminder of some kind might be useful. ;)

Secondly, Its probably going to be useful to split the fps into something more meaningful. Currently people are entering arbitrary comments - I'd like to see a few columns capturing the FPS for a couple of the scenarios, i.e. Wolf Pack and Factions. The two test various capabilities of ones hardware, Factions seemingly being very CPU intensive. I don't know if its doable but min, max and average fps info would be very useful.

One of the system components that is missing from the list is the motherboard. Its an extremely important part of the system that I think has been overlooked. Not only can it play a huge role in overclocking, and thus performance, but I also wonder how many people are using a PCIE3.0 card with a 2.0 slot?

Hope my comments are useful. :)

Why not make those changes to the spreadsheet yourself? :)
I've seen some weird changes in it several times, and you proposals seem sensible to me.

Main reason I did not enter my FPS was that the scenarios are so different that it would be meaningless without some sort of general agreement. If there will be separate columns, I'll try to accommodate (although it has to be done at highest graphics settings to be comparable (and resolution needs to be the same as well)).

Hello to all!

we did add a column to make a reparable FRAME RATE comparison that can be performed by everyone!

The thread is here
http://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=11146

Test parameter's:

1. To avoid any UNWANTED MOVEMENT switch to CLASSIC KEYBOARD ONLY !!

2. Start the 1 mission WASTE DISPOSAL in the asteroids DO NOTHING -stay still - just read the frame rate you get!

3. We use FHD 1920x1080 v-sync off - EVERYTHING on max + FSAA!

But please keep the value's NUMERIC, if you have to comment use the COMMENT/NOTICE function PLEASE (right click on the field you want to comment....)!!!

Whats your computer specs?

I'm thinking of getting a new computer when this comes out, or if not, when GTA V comes out....

My computer is old. Good thing was when I got it on 2007 it allowed me to play some of the games released around that time....

Isnt GTA V already out? As far as Elite Dangerous goes I think the only thing I might need to upgrade is my graphics card because a Radeon HD 6670 just wont do the game justice I think.

I7 4770 8GB RAM, SSD and a GTX760. Wonderful machine but the GTX760 might be a touch low spec but price performance was good. That's probably first thing I will swap out.

i7 3610 QM; SSD; GTX 670M; 16gig Ram

It may be 2 years old but still plays everything quite well, the SSD is the single best improvement in PC architecture for decades, everything happens faster then with a regular HD. There is no real reason to waste a bunch of money on a bleeding edge GPU.

My 660 works very well at max settings 1920x1080 at the moment (50-100 FPS in 1.1, we'll see what happens next week!). The 760 should be ample :)

Oh great... I better get a new computer... usually play older games actually but it'll be comical trying to get Elite Dang on this steam powered calculator....

Getting my new rig on tuesday .. hurry up with the Elite release will ya :D

So tommorow i am getting :
Intel Core i7-4770K , s1150 (haswell)
mainboard :MSI Z87-GD65 Gaming , s1150 , has build in internet lagkiller , wonder if it works , oh and a SB cinema 7.1 and integrated videocard 4600 , so graph not highest priority right now.
Corsair Carbide 400R case
Corsair Vengeance 1866-16GB (2x8GB)
Corsair Hydro H80i watercooling
Price 803.00 euro's

Next will have to be an videocard , i am not sure yet and not sure if i have the money for an R9 or even R7 ..or ati HD 7950 or 70 any ideas?
I will overclock the card and have ATI + Watercooling .. no nvida ew..
still looking into a monitor.. i can't decide if i want a TV or monitor.. just wish they had bigger resolution tv's 1920 is the limit still i guess unless you can pay 4k for a tv lol

Already cloned my win7x64pro from HD to 128GB SSD and ready to transfer it to the new system

I figure this should run the game well .. i would love to hear some comments on it.. this combo seems looking at all tests online a top system , i can on the fly overclock the board/processor toa stable 4900 and the memory to 3GHZ !!

Going to add 16 gigs more memory for a ramdrive later , as the unlimited ramdisk-program comes with the mainboard for free

i'd get a monitor or two (or three,) it will be a lot easier on your eyes

my only concern here is the drive might be a bit small for a games machine, at up to 5gb per game you might find one steam sale will fill it. I started off with a 120gb SSD in my games machine and ended up adding a second in RAID to give me more room.

I forgot to mention i am still using my 2 TB western digital drive as gaming drive, it had the original OS on it and will be used for storage and gaming only.

Right now i just spend 800 euro for a new system , and i have been looking at a game-SSD but money is low now.. tho i have my eyes on a new 1TB SSD (470.00 euro) and waiting till it lowers in price a bit , not in a hurry.
My most popular game will run from ramdrive later :D wich is 20 times faster as SSD( yes you wont notice much difference i am aware of that)
I had my eyes on the MSI Big Bang xpower 2 first because of 128gb memory support , but somehow i decided not to take that now , sad i am stuck at 32GB memory max now , but i'll figure it out lol

The 128 GB SSD is only for win7 , no way i am using it for games , not gonna wear my OS drive out playing games on them.

I had my eyes on a PCI=E card ...pci-e ramdrive , but somehow i can't find them anymore on sale .. if anyone has info or links on some ? i realy want one .
And for the haters .. don't bash my decision on ramdrives .. yes i am aware a lot people are sceptic about them ,and mainly because they never used them, but i have been using them for ages and seriously want one again

If you can pull that kind of OC combo  with a Haswell chip, you NEVER EVER should play lottery or take part in anything that has something to do with good luck. Never. Getting a stable OC to 4.9 GHz with Haswell is a jackpot in itself, combine that with 1866 MHz RAM OC'd to 3 Ghz and still be able to start the system as far as successfully loading Windows -well, I predict it ain't gonna happen (sorry if I sound depressing, but I did some research when selecting parts to my new PC), especially because the RAM isn't 3 GHz rated out of the box.
