Using a Joystick and Throttle with Xbox One.

There is always PS4 next door, that is getting HOTAS support in Elite Dangerous. ;)

Ps3 and 4 already have HOTAS support through the Thrustmaster T-Flight

Honestly this would be nice but i doubt it'll happen, i would suggest just buying a PC.
My build cost me about £400 and i can run pretty much everything (witcher 3, fallout 4, gta v and halo wars 2 are among the games that6have been tested)at ultra 60fps.

I messaged thrustmaster about a hotas for xbox one and this was the response
"To answer your question, we would like to inform you that, for the moment, we are not looking into the possibility of manufacturing a Joystick or HOTAS assembly for the XBOX One." So I guess I will be buying a ps4 pro... sucks cause I love my xbox one

Doesn't look like it's happening then. Shame.

I would jump ship too, either PS4 or PC, but it's not possible to transfer accounts across platforms. Just have to make do with the XB1 Elite Controller which is not a bad piece of kit.

Raised from the dead....slap in the face watching ps4 have hotas support and Xbox, who is Microsoft, who IS computers not have it. Someone is being lazy. Maybe Scorpio will do something. Come on E3

I bought one of these cheap on eBay with the intent of trying to Frankenstein it to an xbone controller but never got round to it but it did raise a couple of questions
1)How to control vertical thrust?
2)why have 5 degrees of movement (including throttle) but only able to use 4 on console? (The stick has twist for yaw but there's also a yaw control on the front of the throttle that pc players can use for something else like lateral movement)

Here's a typical ThrustMaster T-Flight setup for ED on the PC...

I use one of these, a Saitek X52 pro...since I play a lot of flight sims. Although I use a slightly different button/control setup from this... I use mouse/KB for galaxy and system map navigation since it's quicker. The only keys I use outside of typing stuff are 'G' and 'H' for galmap and system map (couldn't be bothered setting a stick control up for them)

ED auto-detects either of those HOTAS and sets a default profile for each. Just needs editing for preference, dead zones etc or you can edit and preload a profile from the Saitek desktop software for each game.

Read the link and two things said jump out at me. "There's no telling when (if ever) this feature will make it to the everyday console owner" and. "your wishes are (possibly) coming true."
It truly is a sad thing xbox does not have a joystick for such an awesome space sim.

Here's another article that makes the keyboard sound more like a certainty.

For Elite, you don't really need the mouse input support, right? All it would take is someone to build a joystick that has the inputs mirroring that of the analog sticks of the controllers and such. The keyboard would be neat for extra buttons and stuff (or even to use the keypad on the controller for button shortcuts). Of course, the true answer would just be to make it so that a joystick usable in windows could be used on the xbox. The regular xbox controllers can be used on PC, so it doesn't make sense to me why the opposite couldn't be easily done technically (whether MS actually wants to is a different issue).

I *believe* mouse+kb is quite an effective combo for elite? Or did I dream that?

Anyway, it would require a patch from Frontier to add the support. Shouldn't be a problem as they aren't at all busy....:)

Some of the best pilots in ED, like Rinzler are KB/mouse flyers...it's a devastating control method for FA/off and extremely accurate.

But all this talk of someone building a HOTAS that somehow mimics a controller? C'mon guys...for one, it's not happening...ever and second, the Xbox one is perfectly capable of handling a mouse/kb and a HOTAS all through the USB ports, just like the mini PC it is.

It's not that hard, Microsoft just need to find the will, lose the paranoia and drop a patch with some drivers to enable the core USB function. Then you buy a cheap T-Flight X from Amazon for 30 quid, off you go.

All Frontier have to do is include the control set/bindings from the PC version to let you fiddle with the buttons....
