Using a Shield Cell Bank causes ship to overheat

I've only used Shield Cells Banks a few times, but yesterday when I fired one off on my T7 it caused my ship to overheat and my cargo to start melting. I don't have a heat sink launcher on my ship, so I took a lot of damage. Lucky I was near an outpost and was able to land a get my ship repaired.

Does this often happen with SCBs or is it possible that something else occurred that caused my ship to over heat? I was being attacked by pirates with thermal weapon's but my shield was still up. Assume thermals weapons can cause temp of ship to rise, but don't know for sure.

They modified SCB's to produce insane heat with 1.5. This is now normal.

What is a nerf?

A nerf is a readjustment of an items performance downwards or commonly called in normal speak a reduction
A buff is an increase!

Just pair heatsinks with the same button press of scb and you will be fine

Nope They do that now. Part of the SCB nerf.

When something is made "less effective". Normally used as a reference in a FPS when bullet damage is reduced; "my gun now shoots nerf darts!"

The ninja's are out today!

before the update it was super easy to just spam SCB (especially for larger ships) and you'd be pretty much invincible. now you either have to fire them far fewer times, or tie them in with a heat sink meaning less space for more SCB

Still is*
This, in my experience this nerf really only affected small ships. The small SCBs barely do anything, and bring a ship like a Viper to over 200% heat, and without a heatsink, will actually cause like 30% hull damage without HRPs. But, on a large ship, the SCBs actually seem to be better, and the ship barely overheats, and even if it does, it only takes like .5% of your hull, if that. I don't even use heatsinks on my 'Conda when using SCBs, but they're required if I'm trying to do that in a Cobra or something smaller.

I don't find them to be better at all. Both on my Python and my Anaconda the recharge with an A6 was noticeably LESS after the nerf than before it. I still run an A6 bank with one heatsink on all my big ships because it is impossible to do any extended combat without them. The main shields still charge way too slow to be practical. Even the Bi-Weave shields are too slow to be practical in a CZ. The Corvette handles the heat crap the best of the three ships I run SCBs on, but I still need to run a heatsink on it to be safe.

I thought the SCB nerf was typically heavy handed as all FD nerfs always seem to be. They could have come up with a better way to prevent spamming than destroying the module. :(

As others have detailed, yes the SCBs now produce heat when you use them.

But Type 7s can't land at outposts. That's what caught my attention.

Only class 7 & 8 SCB's have become overpowered. You can fire one with a heat sink and have massive shield recharge without overheating. So far the Corvette has become the best SCB tank the game has had yet.
