Using an all Beam Laser build on a large ship is amazing. Change my mind.

I ran my FdL like that for a long time. But as NPCs got more and more health points, the quad multis more and more felt like pea shooters with too little damage against large ships and eating up ammo too quickly. Switched to quad beam and huge corrosive MC, never looked back. These days I'd probably roll in a single feedback cascade hammer in place of one of the beams. Simply denying NPCs their SCBs is more elegant than brute forcing past them by outdamaging their regeneration. But my FdL is in semi-retirement, with the Mamba taking over with single huge beam, dual large MCs and dual small cascade rails.

Since I wrote the post you quoted I switched over to 4x C2 gimballed overcharged frags (3x screening shell, 1x corrosive) and although I have to get closer it is overall quicker to kill large ships and the frags are great on shields as well as hull. I still like the beam, I've always been more of a sniper but it works just as well as close range too so it adds range flexibility that my frags now lack.

I'm not so keen on the mamba's turn rate and with a fixed C4 weapon the top vs bottom placement isn't a factor for me so I stuck with the FDL.

If I could get guud and actually learn to properly use fixed weapons I would love to use huge PAs on my Corvette.

The problem is I play with a controller (console player) and getting fixed weapons to work for me is an exercise in frustration.

I play with a controller too, although on PC. It took a while only using fixed weapons to GG enough to hit reliable and if I'm up against one of the small ships I wish for my gimbal multies. Hang in there and use them, there is no more satisfying feeling than deleting a ship in 1 volley or 2.

Yeah my problem is I fight more smaller ships than big ones since I spend alot of time farming signals and materials. Hence the gimballed beams.

I like to walk about my ship naked, a codpiece would cramp my style.
The crazies shouted that socialism, feminism, and any number of things was what was going to destroy modern society. But if only they knew... It was deep space radiation making all the men sterile because they were too vain to wear their lead codpieces out in the black. Now humanity lay in ruin. Albeit, stylish ruin.

Class 4 beam works nicely by itself, anything more than that will bottom out your distributor. Fill the rest of the slots up with missile racks and then you'll be having some fun.

I switched it around. I have 2 size 4 beams with long range and thermal vent. Then I added 4 burst lasers with focused

yeah i have 7 turreted oc beam with termal vent in my cutter and in cz is really ezy just push fire button and then watch a film in the second monitor, just have to switch targhet wvery 20\30 seconds, this game is so dangerous

Frags are nice, but the low ammo count discourages me. I want to stay up to fight for a while, and I'm not grinding for synthesis.

A shield-eating firegroup.
A hull-eating firegroup.
(Each with the other on secondary fire for those brown-trousers moments when you simply MUST just unload everything and pray)

And your build is complete.

What you select for each one and how you engineer them is about how you - personally - fly and fight

(although I do happen to like beam-heavy loadouts myself, I admit)
