Using controller and hotas

Incorrect. For example, Mudrunner supports Wheel + DS4 on PlayStation 4. On PS5, I can navigate the entire system UI with a Wheel, HOTAS, Dual Sense controller all at the same time.

It's an Elite Dangerous problem.
You can't compare PS5 with PS4,different hardware, different OS but if you say that other game on PS4 supports two controller then it's about ED,I've always known PS4 can handle only one controller at a time .

To add;

I'm not 100% on this but IIRC PS4 shuts down the previous DS4 if you fire up another one and select a user with an already active DS4 (as the PS4 O/S UI always asks who's using the newly activated controller). So it might very well be (can't be bothered to confirm this really, as multiple DS4s aren't that interesting of a scenario IMO) that PS4 indeed supports only one Dualshock 4 per user.

But that's entirely different from one input device per user which is a limitation the PS4 simply does not have.

Yeah, but I tried something out and you can have a DS4 and HOTAS 4 connected and working simultaneously (though after about 7 minutes, the DS4 will lose authorization and need to be reactivated. Learned this when I was using the HOTAS 4 as controller and DS4 for comms). However, Elite doesn't recognize this. So it really is an issue with the software.

In Squadrons, I can control with either simultaneously. In Elite, I can't.

If they force DS4 users to use the Crap XBOX galaxy map, when every DS4 comes with a track pad mouse built in, There not going to support multi input..
Keyboard key mapping,, Mouse use with the PC version of the GUIs scroll over and PC galaxy map and HOTAS could have been enabled from day zero... They did not want to do it... there not going to do it now...
You use a Hotas in a SRV for the turret controll shooting, while at the same time driving the SRV at speed and then boosting the srv into the air while never leaving the SRV turret...
Just strip out the dome graphics and you have FPS...

Do you think they will lock people into using a HOTAS for FPS combat?

That will suck, but I'm immune as I use a Titan 2, so will just grab my DS4 which is connected by usb to the T2 to control that part as thanks to the T2, all ED sees is the 1 DS4, so I can use stick or controller and the software doesn't know the difference. So it's just all in the user bindings as it ought to be.

I think it's due to how the PlayStation manages controllers. One active controller at a time per player logged into that console.

What you can do is use something like a Cronus Zen or Titan Two with a wired controller and your hotas. It'd take some scripting so the two aren't stepping on each other, but it's probably doable. Plus, it'd let you ditch the crappy TM HOTAS and use a higher quality PC hotas.

Unfortunetly getting the devs of the chronus zen to update the firmware of the zen to spoof anything other than the DS or xbox controller is a pipe dream, ive been trying to convince them that doing so would get a sizeable group of us to buy thier product, but since no one else here speaks up there, its natural they dont believe me

Yeah, I realized that which is why I went with a Titan 2. Their devs recognize it and it's on their "to do" list after getting next gen console support up and running as that's a higher priority.

Are you sure this is correct? I'm currently using 3 controllers at once on my PlayStation - Controller, HOTAS, G29 Wheel - without the need for expensive third party hardware. All 3 are responding to my inputs simultaneously without disconnecting the other. So it doesn't appear, at least to me, that 'PlayStation only allows once active controller at a time'.
Yes, I have used the controller and HOTAS at the same time. I am returning to the game and thought I would catch up on any HOTAS info in case updates has caused issues. Perhaps HOTAS and controller won't work now?

Definitely an FDEV issue, and one I hope they consider if and when Odyssey releases.

I've had a DS4, 2 move controllers, a wheel and a hotas all connected at once. All could be used to navigate the PS UI simultaneously. It's also worth noting that it's possible for devs to add support for unofficial peripherals to their game.
